I am planning on getting a set of aftermarket 20" rims for my '07 LTZ (stock  :B: 20's are ugly and the chrome are too expensive), so I was wondering if the GM dealer would install them to ensure that the TPMS works after the exchange. I also thought about getting a little larger tire, 285/50/20 which I assume will affect the TPMS. Any suggestions? I am in the middle of researching this and would like to make a final decision soon.  :help:

Check around first,  most dealers dont want to touch aftermarket rims since they claim that they could void the warranty.  If they were installed before purchase such as a conversion or dealer put them on, then they would have to cover them.  Afterwards they could say no.  When I bought the GM 20's after purchasing my 06, the dealer that I bought my AV from would not update the computer since I didnt buy the wheels from them.  I found another dealer in the next town that did it because they were factory wheels with factory appoved tires.

Unless the dealer sells them to you - they usually wont touch them for liability reasons.  If you are staying with the same size wheel, you should be able to use the sensors.

btw - if you are looking for a place to get rid of your stock wheels, shoot me a pm.

Thanks,

G.

My dealership has a whole custom accessory shop in it where u can buy just about any rim/tire combo you want, up to 26's, but cannot balance anythingger than a 20 inch  wheel ??? :E:  It just depends on the dealership, u just have to find the right place.

Ditto. Some dealers do deal with after market installs, But the chrage a pretty penny for it and only want to install before delivery. This way they tack it onto the price and get interest on top of it.

A dealer near me, slapped some regular 22s on a 07 tahoe, and added $8,995.99 just for the rims and tires...and no they werent aluminum forged or anything expensive, crazy!!!  Even crazier though is SOMEONE paid it! :beating:

Will installing after-market wheels void the manufacturer's 3 yr/ 36000 mi. warranty?

Nope! Only time it would void warranty work is if it can be proven that the damage you are trying to get fixed was caused by your aftermarket wheels.

Vertabatt's absolutely right. Go on and get you some 20s if that's what you want. I had a local place called Tire Engineers mount and balance mine. They just removed my sensors from my stockies and put them in my new 20s, and they fit fine. I haven't had one single problem. The service mgr. told me that every now and then they'll run across a wheel those TP monitors won't fit in, but most they have fit just fine, and they had no problems with mine. I bought my wheels from discounttiredirect.com, and Tire Engineers was one of their recommended installers in my area. If you go with that type of deal, you should be fine. Good luck with your purchase.
