Actually you don't lose anything. There is one power outlet up next to the trip computer (under the flip door), there is a cig lighter in the ash tray right below the changer location, one power outlet inside the center console and two outlets on the rear of the console.
There's also lights that light up the ash tray, cupholders and bucket inside the console.
One thing I like is the lid has a separate flip up compartment perfect for a cell phone. It has a small grommet that you can snake your cell phone cord through and plug into the outlet inside the bucket. That way, you can have access to your cell phone and charger without opening the lid.
Oh yeah, there is also a light on the back of the console that lights the rear foot area. Really nice at night.
I did all this because I wanted to put it together in a nice package and offer it as an upgrade. Well, after my upgrade, the cost has made it way more than anyone will be willing to pay. I was able to do it for about $1500, but that's just because I was able to make a deal with a friend at a dealership and got the parts for super cheap (sort of a one time only type deal).
When I started the project, I gathered all the parts I thought I would need. Then started the project and discovered I needed more parts, so the cost continued to climb. Then I started the wiring
Talk about a wiring job. I feel sorry for anyone that has to work on my truck. I'm the only one that knows what's going on with the wiring. My truck is so far from stock, I don't think the dealerships will want to tackle any problems.
I tried to make the wiring as neat as possible, but this was the tester and it's not completely neat by my standards. It's good and if you look at it you'd probably say it's good, but I'm super anal about the wiring.
What I may do down the road is re-wire the whole truck. May be easier to just get the main harness for the Sierra Denali and change everything out.
I have to admit, it was a fun upgrade.
Since I had the truck apart for the carpet and console upgrade, I put in some more sound deadening and I'm still in the process of changing out the speakers. While I had everything out I went ahead and pre-wired it for an amp. So basically I just have to plug in the amp and mount it to the back wall and I'm done. The OEM-1 is in place and everything.
Now, if it all works, that will be awesome. I'm sure it will (fingers crossed).
