I cannot figure out the drivier information centre and the programing of driver 1 and driver 2 im convinced that my av does not have this feature but the manual says differently. anyone understand this.

Do you have a 2003? In the 2003 brochure it says the the "Driver Information Center" is standard in 2WD and 4x4. But what options do you have? Do you have the "Driver Convenience Package" with the steering wheel mounted controls? I believe you need the wheel controls to access all of the features.

Very good Dan.

You need the one of the options with the steering wheel controls in order for the DIC to be fully functional.

I hear you have to have the steering wheel control option, which the manul alludes to being standard...

The owners manual doesn't include the (if equipped) after the steering wheel controls. I wonder if at the last minute some bean-counting genius at GM thought it would save $$$ if the steering wheel controls became an option.

To say that the DIC is standard is misleading. Nowhere that I have seen, including brochures, manual, and press releases, does it say anything about the DIC losing functionality w/o steering wheel controls.

I have an idea though... Assuming that the wiring in the column is present, and the DIC module is the same (probably are), would it be possible to add this feature simply by changing the steering wheel?

This is something I've seen done with Pontiac Firebirds that optionally had the steering wheel radio controls. Simply changing the steering wheel made for functional wheel controls....

Do any of you all have access to the '03 service manual to see if wiring is present and the DIC module PN is the same? I bet it is, but I don't want to bet the price of a new steering wheel through GMPartsDirect or Dal at VanDevere...

Apart from the above idea, perhaps if we originated a letter writing campaign to GM to make good on their not so standard equipment DIC...

Cheers,
John

Look at the back of your remotes. Use remote #1 to unlock the doors and then start it up. Driver 1 should be on the menu. If you use remote #2, then Driver 2 will be listed. The radio presets are different on both, other than that nothing changes that I noticed. I do not have the #1 abd #2 setting switch on my door.

Hope this helps. (y)

Also, your manual describes how to adjust your settings without using the steering wheel buttons.

Driver #1 and Driver #2 settings should remember more than that. Should remember Seat position, pedal position (if they are adjustable in your AV), outside Mirror position, HVAC temperature for both Driver and Passenger (if automatic HVAC), and lastly radio presets.

That said though, you still have to have the steering wheel controls to do much with the DIC.

I was duped to believing that all Avs had a functional DIC! I guess I should have checked on that. What a disappointment! I don't even have a trip odometer???? This sucks!

I don't have the steering wheel controls but I do have the trip meter. I currently use the #2 key fob but when I start the AV it shows "Driver 1".... ???

Can you explain to me exactly how you do this? Are there other features you can access? I'm a newbie and I'm confused. ???

All I do is push the button on the gauges and it toggles between Odometer, trip meter, and hours. Other than that I haven't found any other features....

Where is this button? My manual only talks about steering wheel buttons.

On the gauges just as any vehicle has the button\knob\thing to reset the trip meter.....

Duh...yeah, I got it. Still quite a disappointment that I cannot fully utilize the DIC. I never realized that I'd need the driver convience package. If I had to go back, I would have thought about getting that a little more.

Same here....I thought it was standard but I didn't get it either......

Count me in, although I don't think I would go so far as to say I was misled...I just got the Z71 I could afford, and that happened to be one with almost nothing added. I wish I had the convenience package, too. Maybe we can add it sometime.

BTW, I can not believe that someone hasn't joked about the title of this thread yet :2:

Honestly, I REALLY think your title should be changed
I thought this post was a joke at first  Go ahead, read the title again, you'll know what i mean ;D :D ;D

If I use key fob #1 or #2 to unlock the doors on my 03, it says Driver 1 when I start it up. I reprogrammed my DIC to lock the doors after I was moving down the road, instead of when I take it out of park. I noticed soon afterward that the door locks work the way I prefer, when I unlock using key fob #1. They work as they did from the factory if I unlock using key fob #2. So, the programming of the door lock/unlock is also remembered, along with radio stations and the other items. I do not have the buttons on my steering wheel.

New to the boards, but have been lurking for a couple of weeks. Recently picked up our new '03, and it seems to be everything that we will need it to be. I am VERY confused about the DIC system. No steering wheel controls on mine (did anyone ever look into swapping on a new steering wheel with the controls??). Someone posted that even with the "basic" DIC system, each key fob (#1 and #2) should control that drivers seat position, mirrors, and radio stations. I cannot figure out how to do this!!! Someone please help! All my fobs do is lock/ unlock/ panic.
Thanks much!
Jeff, Cincinnati

OK, here goes, if you have no steering wheel buttons, you have no DIC. The remotes do nothing, according to the dealer, some of the Av's, start up and display driver 2 for no reason, factory glich. If you read your manual, the only thing you can change with your remote is your auto locking system, and even this shows nothing on the DIC. HOWEVER, as mentioned, JP is working on a kit, he tells me it may be ready by end of July, to help us all!
