Did Fram Change filters?

The last (and first) time I changed my oil, the book called out for a TG3576, and that is what I used. It was the same depth as the factory filter. Now, on my second oil change, I see that the book calls out a FRAM TG3506. It is considerably shorter, but fits. I talked to my friend who has a silverado and he said the same thing happend to him. Does anyone have any idea if they changed the filter or are we crazy. Just curious.
 
I believe that GM has changed the filter spec not twice, but three times now. You are not crazy, and it's not just FRAM.

The '03 filter is SHORTER than the '02 filter, but either will work. Most say go ahead and use the longer is you want as there is more filter media. My service deparment even said the same thing.

When I say three changes, I seem to remember that the '04's changed yet again, but I may be mistaken about that. There is a very long filter thread that discusses all of this.
