DIFFERENT OIL/FILTER COMBO?

I now have been running ROYAL PURPLE 5-30w & K&N oil filter. My old combo was GM filter & MOBIL ONE 5-30w. I have noticed many small improvements with the new combo but have noticed a reduction in oil pressure by about 15 on my guage at full throttle. My question is is it better to have greater filtering with lower oil pressure or go with the higher oil pressure with lower filtration? Just wondering any input would be great. AJ

I don't have an answer to your question . . but it would be interesting to know whether it was the oil, the filter, or a combination of both that resulted in the lower oil pressure. You changed both at the same time - it would be a pain, but for example what would the oil pressure be with the K&N filter and Mobil 1?

15 psi seems like a pretty significant drop. I'll be interested in what more informed individuals have to say about this.

My personal opinion is that unless you are going over 6,000 miles between oil changes that the GM filter will perform just fine. The more important thing here is to find a cause for the pressure loss. I currently run Royal Purple 10W-30 w/ Delco PF-59 and have experienced no problems, pressure loss, etc. I can't imagine that a K&N oil filter is going to drop oil pressure 15 psi, people would quit buying them. The other thing to consider is the accuracy of the gauge, which from what I've heard is not that great. My curiousity is how many miles on this oil change and is the oil level completely full ?

I can easily imagine a filter causing a pressure drop. years ago I put a Hastings filter on a vehicle and lost almost 20 lbs. I cut open the filter and they used a thick wadding type media that I could see how it would restrict flow. Went back to Fram filter and pressure returned to normal.

I THINK THE K&N FILTERS FINER PARTICELS THEN THE STOCK G.M. SO I THINK THE DROP IS THE FILTER. I NOW HAVE ABOUT 1200 MILES ON THE OIL & FILTER CHANGE. ALSO MY TRUCK ONLY HAS JUST UNDER 6000 MILES ON IT. SORRY FOR SHOUTING BUT THE RADIO IS REAL LOUD RIGHT NOW.lol
