Do you use your Rear Defrost?

OK, so, maybe this is a totally worthless and stupid thread, but has anyone actually ever used, or even needed to use their rear defrost?

I swear, the design of the avalanche, the sail panels, make it pretty much uneeded.

I do park in the garage most of the time, but I've worked nightes and come out in the morning and there's been no need whatsoever.

I wouldn't even know if the damn thing worked!

I noticed this too. I'm in northern CA and it doesn't get extremely cold here, but it does get below freezing at night quite often. And while I have had to scrape ice off the windshield, I have never had any at all on the rear window. Like you said, the sail panels seem to keep the dew from forming on it. I guess you could have your windows fog up while driving and need to use the defrost, but I have yet to have that happen in my AV.

I have used them to defog the rear window only. And on my 03' the rear defrost switch also defrosts the side mirrors, and I use that all the time.

Live in the snow belt here and have used the defroster quite often. My AV stays outside all the time. The sails create a dead air space and with snow on the roof will cover the back window as I run down the road.

I guess I oughta try parking out side more often.

I suppose there are other ways to fog up the back windows too ;)

I really haven't noticed a great deal of frost on the mirrors either. Maybe once or twice. I probably did hit the button to do this (the function is the same on the '02).

Soon I'll have mirrors like the '03 too (with the T/S and power folding feature). ;D

The one plus to parking outside and having to clean snow off almost daily is getting to take a look at the whole truck every time I do. Helps me keep up with things. Do wish I had a garage though my mod list is growing and no where to do them. :E:

Not yet; in fact I'd like to scrape off the usless crap so I can see something! 'Bad enough trying to see behind a Av anyway.. Nothin' too hard about poppin' the window and cleaning it manually anyway...But I live in SoCal, that's why.

I live in FL and have used it several times to remove over-night condensation from parking outside. Works well, too.

In Michigan here. Yep I use it since the mirrors are also heated throught the same deal. works like a charm for me.

I leave for work @ odark30. So I use the mirror feature alot ( my nieghbors Z28 is parked in and across the street). Also, I almost always back into the driveway, for my street is not so wide and she takes some space to back up in the dark.

100% correct!!! Same situation here!

Used it for the first time this week, but only to defrost the side mirrors. The whole truck was covered in 1-2 inches of ice and snow but not a single drop on the rear window.

I haven't yet needed the rear defroster, and I am located in Southern Ontario.

I have used the defroster to clear ice and fog off the sideview mirrors, and yes, that would acticate the rear defroster.

use it all the time when the mirrors fog up, also use it when the holes in my "Glasscapes", rear window decal, fill up with water

I used it like twice when the side mirrors fog upped while driving in heavy fog....does that count?

Never. Maybe because I have never used my actual rear window.
I think the defroster lines made it look tacky. I built several plexiwindows and these are the windows I use. The actual rear window is somewhere in my garage closet. Talk about a clear unobstructed view without any white lines to get in your way.

Looks like you really have those perfected. (y)

So, when you turn on the rear defroster it also turns on the heated mirrors? Boy, I learn something new all the time!
