i am looking for an advanced tech to help me how can i get my driver seat to recline more it goes about 40 degrees but need it to go all the way back i sleep in my truck and need it to tecline more some body help abuelito

why not fold midgate and sleep in bed?

I'm 6' and slept in the back seat once, it was good. But the folding midgate down and using that is good too. Keep a warm sleeping bag in there and an airmatress and you are set.

thank you all great guys for advice where to sleep and how to sleep but that was not my need :E: what i need is info on how to make seat incline allthe way ok i could sleep on the top of the truck or under it but i want to sleep in the front driver seat all the way back :E: :E: :E: i thought with all the advanced tecks out there some would help on this i need to sleep up front so i can get away real fast when oklahoma beats the tar out of lsu down there you need to get away fast when they lose abuelito

Does the passenger seat fold down more? If so, swap them out and screw the side airbags and armrests, cause I doubt there is a way to make that left seat fold more, its built for diffrent tollerances being that its the drivers seat.

There's some spec that says the seat belts have to work when the seat is reclined. Ergo, it can only go back so far.

:8: well i guess ill have to get out my tool box a go see what i can do with this seat got to get it to lay down and maybe when i do ill have to find a way to keep it up it may be better to keep it haf way for this big game in new orelleans LSU vs Oklahoma because when sooners whip the cajuns its best to get out of town as quick as you can bad loosers they throw mud bugs at you and beer bottles empty one of course well here goes to get it to go back i hate it we didnt some teck to help abuelito :8: :8: :8:

It depends on the type of power recliner in the seat. If it's a worm-gear drive with a lead screw, you could possibly put a longer lead-screw in that would allow more travel. A lot depends on the room available under the seat in the area of the recliner also.

Suffice it to say, it would be a major undertaking.

I haven't looked at the av seat, but if it's like most manual seats, there will be a series of notches in the part of the seat where it pivots, probably has a stud or something similar to stop the movement, it would have to be removed, then additional notches made to latch in the needed position, as others have said, the reason for the stop is so that the seatbelt is still in an affective location, won't do much good in an accident if driven this way, you'd slide under it.

I know on the 02 power seat there is a collar on the screw drive that acts as a stop if it could be moved it would allow the recline to go back more. The stop is designed not to be removed so you would have to cut it off and replace with a set screw collar. Might be a PIA but it might be worth it I hate the no recline recline feature but understand the seat belt safety issue too.

Abuelito.

NO NO NO !!!!!!!!

These are ABTS seats- all belts to seats-where seat belt loads are contained within the seat and floor mounts. There

The Tower that holds the shoulder harness is attached via a specialized recliner to the tracks. Modifying this is UNSAFE unless you are an automotive engineer.

All GMT 800's= full size pick ups and SUV's have this similar design. These seats are built to withstand over 50G's, if you start modifying these items the seat back may break loose during a crash and become a battering ram on you.

I strongly suggest you consider the backseat or midgate option instead.

The company I work for builds these seats for the AV and all the other models.

I'm in on this mod. I believe I asked this ? a long time ago to.

As soon as the weather gets better here I WILL be looking at this closely!!!, I'm sure there is a "stop" that can be ground down to allow for more reclining travel. I had the same issue with my 02 buckets and now my 03 bench including the center seat which does NOT recline at all. But it will when I'm done 1 way or another.

G.

It seems the problem is that the engineers want to ensure safety while the vehicle is in motion (via seat belts) but haven't taken into account that people occasionally put the vehicle in Park and then want to recline the seat all the way back (Duh!). There could be two settings - a max recline that only goes back part-way when the vehicle is in Drive or in motion, then another max recline that goes further back when the vehicle is off and in Park.

Am I missing something, or is that just too simple?

Yeah this is a really annoying feature on all Chevy trucks and suvs. My Tahoe will not recline either. My friend has a newer Pathfinder and you can pull out the front seat headrests, then recline the seats to a horizontal position and they come to a rest sitting even with the back seats. Then you can sit in the back seats and strech out your legs across the folded flat front seats and watch the dvd player in 5.1 Dolby. They even have right and left arm rests in the back seats with cup holders that can fold down. It is a very well thought out interior!

I installed Pontiac Boneville power seats in my 96 Impala ss and they power recline all the way till the seat back hits the rear seat. I wish the AV seats did that.

I traded in my 2002 GMC Envoy for my AV. Wife liked the upgrade to the AV, except for one thng: the passenger seat does not recline as far as the GMC Envoy did. The Envoy seat was aslo fully electric and has the seatbelt built into the seat, like the AV. (Envoy also has side airbags built in). Don't understand why the limit on the AV; same manufacturer.

Will score big points with wife if someone can figure how to get the seats to recline further.

I agree.. I do not like that the seat will not recline all the way back..I am too very interested in this mod. Unfortunatley what it sounds like is that it will conitinue to bother me until I get mad enough and rip the thing apart to see how to fix it.. Hopefully someone here will have figured it ot first...

I dont think you'll be able to do anything becuase the seat computer controls everything.

I checked this out at the dealer. I noticed that the power seats don't recline all the way. Naturally I thought the manual ones would go all the way down.

Guess what, the manual seats won't recline any further than the power ones.
