Dual Level Loading

In the sales material for my '03 AV, they talked about dual or split level load management features in the bed. I haven't figured that out yet. Anyone know what the sales lit was talking about?
 
Basically you will have to cut either 2x4's or 2x6's to length that fit in the grooves in the sides of the bed.
