I am looking for anyone who has purchased any of the new aftermarket midgate enclosures (subthump/probox/etc). Currently I have 2 JL 10W0's in an underseat box and am wondering if it is worth switching over to a midgate enclosure for more bass.

Two 10s are great for under the seat, but if you want more, a midgate is the only way to go.  However if you decide to go that route, you need to ditch the 10s and upgrade to at least a pair of 12s.  I think you would regret it if you didn't go bigger and with a model of sub that handled more power too.  I mean, think about it, why spend 500-1,000 or more so you can have two puny 10s in there and after you got it installed be wishing you could have gotten a dual 12 setup.  Subs are relatively cheap in comparison to any midgate style box.  Make sure you pick out something that you know will be enough.  Just my .02

I already got rid of my dual 10W1 underseat setup and I'm shopping around for a midgate setup.

The underseat boxes just don't do it for me...

i disagree about the ditching the 10s.. if you want more, buy another ten and have 3 subs in the midgate box.. i dont know if caraudiofactory or subthump make three though.. i got mine built by kingkongcustoms but if you decided not to go with them i guess i would upgrade to 12s, too... but definitely go with the midgate box

3 10's is not a bad idea, but the JL 10W1 is a pretty weak sub, designed for small mounting areas.  If you go to the midgate I would at least upgrade to W3's.

I will be looking to get a couple 12's in my midgate.

i just emailed www.bassforms.com about their fiberglass enclosure under the seat that holds two 12's and has an amp rack.  now i am just awaiting a price

Holding 2 12s is one thing... having enough airspace will mae or break your system! know how much space your subs require and how much space the box has!

Intuition tells me that there probably isn't enough space under the seats to house 2 12s and an amp rack.

Does anyone actually own one of the migates made by someone other han JL Audio? I see a lot of talk about them but have yet to see a post about their quality/performance/fit. Unfortunately the JL system is out of my price range....according to my wife.

hahaha "according to my wife"
I own one built from www.kinkongcustoms.com and couldn't be happier with it, however, i'm pretty sure a lot of people have bought from www.subthump.com .  I heard caraudiofactory.com does not make that great of boxes but that's only what I have read.  I don't remember any particular members buying from either but I do believe MYBLACKONE knows the guys at subthump.  So if you do decide to go with them, maybe you should talk to him.  Maybe he can get you some kind of discount or any important information.  Good luck on your system and please post pics when you are done!!

for bassforms they claim that each side has .95 ft of airspace and the subs i am looking for require 1 ft of airspace.  i am at a loss right now, i just need some 12's

My friend got one box from bassforms for his 07, he will be posting pictures.

He enlarged it to fit 2-12" with a mdf spacer to put 2-12D6 Diamond audio

.95 is the entire box

I saw pictures with 2  10D4 with a spacers and he told me the box is amazing

Any suggetsions

hopefully, at MCM, I'll know how the subthump midgate replacement box sounds.  I have one of those and 3 amps being delivered to me there.

I have 2 JL10W0's powered by 2 Alpine 750W mono-blocks.

The paint isn't going to rattle of my rig, but it hits plenty hard.  My neighbors definetly know when I'm on the street!

Check out the picks and the midgate box.  The box is builty dead nuts to JL's specs for their 2 10's.

The box is $500.

I love it!

got my subthump midgate installed at MCM.  its a great box.

I installed it late thursday night/early friday morning and did a little bit of tuning on Friday.  Saturday at the MCM Show & Shine, I was picked for one of the finalists in the stereo competition.  The others had either JL midgates or custom installs.  I think it held its own against the JL's....  but it couldn't compete against a massive four 15's install that hits 160+ db.

Bang for the buck and ease of install, IMO, you cant beat the subthump box.

Great to hear a good review on it... I definitely would have gone for it if I hadn't found a JL box for $500.

Thanks for the info "grnxnam". I'm struggling with upgrading the stereo or selling the avalanche because gas in chicago is hitting $3.50 so the truck is getting expensive. I dont want to part with it but I need to soup it up a little more or send it away.

Anyone now with as review on KingKong or Probox?

Wanted to thank everyone for the input on the conversion of my setup.

Also I sent an email earlier today to Subthump and kingkong and both of them responded within 6 hours. Pretty excellent customer service!!!
