Engine Question

I recently bought a 2003 AV with the 8.1liter motor and have noticed a small problem.

When traveling at a level rate of speed, the motor feels as though it is "pulsating", that is it feels as though I am buffeted by winds that kick up and then falls off. Its not very pronounced, just a slight kick on the rpms's.

Could this be the gas I am using? I use the high test stuff.

Thanks for your help!

I have 2002 8.1L for about 18months. No problem like you say. I had a 1500 avalanche and did something like that. It turned out to be the transmission. But the 2500 uses the 4L85E and the 1500 used the 4L65E. Also it is recommended you use only 87 octane fuel.

I wouldn't think that fuel is your problem, but IMHO, there is absolutely no reason to run high test gasoline in that engine, especially at the rate that it consumes it . Save your money.

What the heck are knock sensors? I've never heard of them...

BTW, I switched to 87 octane today and saved money!!

You only need cheap gas unless you modified engine like some of them racing speed freaks in the performance section

while we are on the engine subject, after reaching the 40,000 mile mark on my 2002 Av, the check engine light appeard  is it that time of month or do I take it for a check-up?

I too have had this puslating problem since I bought my 2002 2500. I just got back from the dealership who said they could not duplicate the problem. Taking it back tomorrow. Also have the chatter, almost like running over a rumble strip when turning from a dead stop at low speed. Either left or right. Only have 5,000 miles on the truck. They couldn't duplicate that one either. Doesn't look promising so far. Anyone have any ideas or actually have the problem resolved? Thanks.

If you have OnStar, call and ask for a remote diagnostic. They should give you the trouble code and general info on the reason behind it.
