Even More Changes For 2003 AV?

While on vacation on the 4th I visited a relative who owns a chevy dealer. We talked about my new AV and the upcoming 2003 models. He mentioned to me that the dark cladding is only going to be on the first quarter to first half of the production year. After that, the AV will recieve more changes: NO cladding and chrome bumbers like the Silverado. Which leads me to believe that the front fenders will be rounded like the Silverado's also. Keep in mind that I don't personally know him that well and he may have been messing with me, but it is an interesting thought. (although I don't like the idea) ???

I hope they don't take the cladding away thats one thing I liked about the Avalanche if they do all of us that like the cladding should write a letter to Lutz or who ever is charge and tell them how stupid they are :7:. If they take the clading away it would look like any thing else on the road :8: :8: :8: :7: :7: I think the Avalanche with out cladding would look like :D: don't take the cladding :C:

They aren't going to take it away. Just make it an option starting in February ... per "Deep Bowtie" ;D

That would be true ours would be worth more but I like the cladding thats what make the Avalanche's different I am looking at a 2003 AV and soon as the new 2004 model comes out I would want one of them but with out the cladding I just don't know if I would get another one. If Lutz thinks the cladding is so "ugly" why did the Avalanche get Motor Trend Truck of the Year and what has it got mostly good reviews if he takes the cladding off I am going to write a letter to GM tell them how I feel the cladding also help protect the lower part of the truck. I love the Avalanche with cladding.

sorry for the post before this one goo I did not read yours. you posted it while I was writing the last one I know I will always have cladding. Cladding rules!!!

I can't see them changing the cladding from light grey to dark grey/black and then getting rid of it entirely. If they were going to get rid of it they'd just leave it light grey.

An option would be fine but I don't really see the need... I wonder if it will be standard on the 2500's and be claddingless on the 1500's or something?

Guess we'll find out.

I think the dude is speculating about the non- cladded Av. I believe GM would have to have some hard facts that the cladding is hurting sales greatly (which I don't think is happening). The only thing I think they could do is make it look more like the Caddy, which won't happen cause the unit cost would go up too much which would put them out of the $35,000 consumer group. (y)

I have been following Mr Lutz and the GM story with some interest. Mr Lutz has stated he believes that far too many things were being put on the cars as standard equipment that should be options (read list price, with a whole load of extra charges). His view was they were giving something for free.
This view has had an impact on the new version of the Grand Prix, the 2003 Av and it's cladding, side bags on many models etc.
With every item that is turned from standard to option, the number of variations increases greatly. It will be near impossible for a dealer to keep a supply that covers all the possibilities. I thin people will have a more difficult time finding what they want on the lot which will not help sales. JMHO

I wouldn't post if it was just speculation. I have some reliable sources that have confirmed this. I posted originally here:

AVALANCHE'S CLADDING, NO MORE 2003

For all of us who decided to go with the Av from day one and got the cladding....good for us.....sorry to see that most folks might not get the same benefit in the future.... :B:

Goo, I thought about this, and could this be the scenario?Isn't the Suburban scheduled for a revamp in 2003? So, the standard Avalanche gets the front end and doors from the Suburban and the Z-71 gets the current sheet metal and cladding? That way there only needs to be 2 different rear quarters for the Av. Or is this pretzal logic?
