I noticed some ugly residue on my wheels this weekend.  I tried some wheel cleaner and it didnt come off.  Looked like water spots but it didnt come off.  I read a TSB about spots and pitting on GM wheels.  It recommended using GM Cleaner Wax.  I thought what the heck and went to Autozone.  Bought some Mother's California Gold Caranuba cleaner wax (if GM cleaner wax works then this should do better).  Much to my surprise (even though the TSB said it would work) it took care of it.  I was worried about the wheels because I heard that they are clear coated and didnt want to F-bomb them up.  As you can see not a problem.

It wiped on easy and didnt take much to take it off.  It is more like polishing than waxing.
