So I started my engine cover the same time I started my bow tie

but since the engine cover is obviously bigger and has more painted surface visible I put a lot more effort into it ..... so here it is let me know what you think................ there's a whole can of clear on there  :B:

I like that.  Is that just a coat or two of color with many coats of gloss?  How did you prep it?  Did you just clean it off with alcohol or did you scuff it with something?

Tell me more.  Inquiring minds want to know.

Looks to me you done did a jam up job!

Awesome job - Looks great - Mine didn't look that the third time I painted it..

I need to redo mine or change the truck out from underneath it >:D

that is sweet.  I want to that, the radiator cover and the fuse box cover.  I will be doing it in a month or so.  Where did you actually paint it, in the garage, in the yard, in somebodies booth?  that is my dilema, I was trying to figure out a way to not make a mess, but also not allow anything to get on it when its drying.

do tell

I did it similar to the way I did the bow tie

I cleaned the cover off with some 409 or something like that, Then I scuffed it up with 800 grit and shot the color on with some Dupli Color (spray paint) I found that matched pretty damn close to the color of my truck (Charcoal metallic). When you get the paint make sure there is a CC after the color, that means it is compatible with the clear coat. Also picked up a couple cans of the Dupli Color Clear.

I did 4 coats of paint and sprayed it on pretty thick I waited and hour between each coat (but it was a hot day out in the sun) and then sanded with 1000 grit then 1500 grit between each coat. 45 mins after the last coat of color I shot the clear so it would contact with the color while it was still wet so they could melt together. I waited 3 hours or so (again it was hot outside) and wet sanded it till it was smooth as a baby butt with 1500 grit. It was starting to get dark when I did the 2nd coat so I put it up in my garage to dry. For the next week when I got home from work I would wet sand and shoot another coat of clear. I put on about 6 coats of clear getting heavier each time........ just make sure after you wet sand you dry it really good with a lint free cloth..........

Hope that helps have fun and just go for it  :B:

I was thinking the same thing about the fuse box and whatever else I could pull off easily. When I painted it I collapsed a box so that I had something rigid to carry it around on. I did the painting outside as well as some of the clear it all depends how windy it is. I did have to do some in the garage because it was to windy. There was no mess at all and with it on the box it was easy to move when it was wet. Just make sure if you do spray in your garage to keep it well ventilated and dont let the kids hang out in there while your doing it, or you for that matter. Paint it and go out. That clear coat is strong s*&#............ have fun

Heres a couple pictures while it was being painted

I like it.  You could also try using fusion paint by crylon.  It is designed for plastic and they have many colors.

my buddy used that same stuff to do all his plastics and it came out lookin very good! when the sun hits it it shines soo brighttt!!!! flakin off the bumper after the winter though but other then that it looks sweet! and so does ur engine cover and bow-tie, bowties very original!
