Finallly got around to it. This Fire Ext. is from last year's Secret Santa "RedLeg".  I love it.  (y)  Thanx Redleg!

What type of screws do you use to mount the holder?? do you just drill directly into the saddlebag lid?

Short ones!

Seriously, whatever will fit in the MagLite holders and is still short enough not to punch thru the top of the saddlebag - 3/4" or so.  Just draw a straight line on the under side of the lid with a ruler, predrill your holes, and then screw them down with regular coarse thread wood screws.

(See DougD - I searched!)

Anyways, here's my latest eBay acquisition - a 3 lb Chrome Fire Extinquisher.  And I mounted it in the Saddle door (may rethink that over time tho as it is heavy - already looked at the door spring mod).  Notice the size of it compared to the 1lbr's. - it just barely fit thru the opening and I had to really make be careful in the exact positioning measurements.

(Yes, I know it says "Corvette", but it's just decals and it is at least a Chevy.  I'll try to get come Avalanche decals soon.  I do have a Chevy bowtie and my "MOVE OVER" decals tho'.  Hmm?!!)

In keeping with my theme I went with Black Chrome...

It came with the BIG Azz sticker covering all that beautiful Black Chrome (first pic)

I pulled that off and got a smaller one from my local Fire Supply Co.(second pic)

Has anybody had to use their fire extinguishers yet?

I carry a couple in my Jeep, but wonder how effective 1 single small one like that would really be if you had an electrical or gas fire in the Avy...

Luckily, never had to use in the AV, but I did have to use one years ago on a small electrical fire in a van.  You only get about 15-30 seconds of FE time.  That would be enuf to clear a small electrical or engine fire.  But if you've got anything bigger, that gets into the interior cloth or into the grass, well then, get out the marshmellows and start thinking what you're going to buy with the insurance settlement.

Don't mean to be harsh, but these FEs are just for small fires.  That's why I went up to the largest 3lb (vs the 1lbs) I could find that would fit in the AV.  There are bigger FEs, but most don't fit into any vehicle reasonably.  I don't expect that even this one would save the AV if the fire got big.

Oh, and BTW, once your start a FE - run it all out.  Use every bit of it you can.
