Has anyone had problems with the Firestone Wilderness Tires? That is what's on my 04 AV, but with all the history am wondering if I should think about changing.

:E: :7: WELL I'LL SAY THIS,..I JUST BOUGHT MY AV WITH19,000 MILES AND THE TWO FRONT TIRES LITERALLY WERE COMING APART BETWEEN THE TREADS TO THE POINT WHERE METAL CORDING WAS STICKING OUT!!....AND THESE TIRES HAVE A MAX OF 19,000 MILES ON THEM????....JUNK MAN....UNSAT! :6:

I have the Firestone tires on my 04 AV and I can not say I see a problem. The truck rides great and smooth and in a show we had they did very well. So there may be better but I have not found any problem in my 4,000 miles.

I have the firestone on 16" rims and have almost 35K on them no problems! I rotated every 7K or so and last year when we had the 36" snow....I was out in it.....didn`t even get hung up in plow wash which was packed 36"+.
Now if I was gonna go `wheelin then I would want a more aggressive tread.....Gonna need new shoes soon...I may go with Firestone again....Just a little more aggressive >:D

Got the Firestones on my 2500, they seem alright until it rains. IMHO they just don't move enough water and hydroplaning with nearly 7000lbs ain't cool. I have some Yokohama Geolander AT+II's being shipped now...looking forward to the change.

Same here. I have the Firestone Steeltex on mine and they are terrible in the rain. Not all that great in the snow either. I am looking foward to your opinion on the Yokohama's. Keep us posted.

I've given Firestone several "chances" in the past; all failed. - various types between friends and my own. All (except the "500" slicks used with automatics only) Were simply NFG.
The "Wide Ovals" (early '70's) were the worst :9:; apparently Firestone designed/applied the "oval" as the circumference of the tire! They were unbelievably out of round! Then the Explorer saga we read about (Ford or Firestone or both?). 'Just too much for me..

However if they were that bad all over, there wouldn't be Firestone tires anymore. So I'd focus on Magazine, CPSC(?) and NHTSA-etc. reports on particular types if you really want them.
