Flow Master Dual Exhaust

Ok...now that I am a member, let me add yet ANOTHER topic!!!! :)
I notice several people in this forum have installed flow master dual exhaust systems.
1. Does it provide a noticeable difference in sound/performance?
2. How much did it cost?
3. Where do you get them and finally
4. Can you install them yourself?

I LOVE this AV!!!!!!!!

Thanks! Looks GREAT! I love the old "turbo" sound that turbo mufflers would give....but....I have "grown up" a little! ha

Just curious...why did you install duals, then convert back to a single?

With your current set up, do you have a noticeable difference in power?

Great info! My wife would frown over the church situation as well! :)

Am considering going with headers as well...will let you know how it turns out!

Just ordered Gibson dual cat back rear exit. I'll put em on nx Fri. Anybody know HOW much noise they will make - Gibson said "not 2". ???

I'm going have flomaster exhaust installed very soon as well. I'm going with the 40 series Delta with the dual out. They say the delta is supposed to be quieter in the cab and sound about the same on the outside. The best price I've found around here (houston) is $225 with chrome tips and $200 without.

From what I understand, as long as you don't mess with the emisions system your OK. So "cat-back" systems or muffler replacement shouldn't affect the warranty.

4chip:
Please keep us informed as to what you do,
and how it works out!

irontrain:
how does the 40 series Deltaflow sound in comparison?
A lot quieter than the Flo-Pro?
Sounds better than stock though I guess.

black_magic AND jhorvath1:
PLEASE let us know how they sound and perform once you get them on! (Pics would be nice as well!) (y)

I heard that 40 series is very load and you can hear it inside to. After you put them on did it help at all more mpg or power?

Yeah, the 40 series is louder than a lot you can get, but I don't think it's too loud. It sounds great at open throttle, >:D and then calms down when cruising.
It is pretty noticeable inside the cab in city driving, and barely on the highway.

I've done a bit of research on this topic as I plan to do the "exhaust thing" in the near future. Although the look of duals is extremely cool, in speaking with a tech from Flowmaster, his suggestion for the most horsepower/torque gains when using additional intake upgrades (cool air intake, Mass air, K&N, etc) is to go with the Flowmaster Force II System # 17341. This is an "after-cat" system that uses a 70 series (53071) muffler with a specially designed resonator (15125) to substantially cut down on interior noise levels at cruising speeds while still giving that gratifying growl under hard accelleration. Also...I asked him about the benefit of replacing the stock catalytic converters as so many aftermarket companies are pushing their "low restriction" cats. The tech told me that they tested the stock G.M. units and found them to already be low-restriction units utilizing a honeycomb system rather than the old pellet system. If ya really gotta have duals, order the resonator(15125) and muffler(530712) which will give you a dual outlet from which to run two exhaust pipes to the back. A good muffler shop should be able to run the exhaust pipes to the rear and fabricate any other hangars you may need. Good Luck!!!

Of coarse the flowmaster tech will say go with the "cat back" system... it cost 4 times as much as just the muffler itself. Here is my short and sweet OPINION. If your worried about the sound being too loud, then you should get the 50 series muffler or a different brand. If you want it loud and don't mind hearing it when your driving, then get the 40 series.

About the 50 series (SUV):
I was considering the 50, as I was concerned that the 40 might be too loud on long trips with the midgate open. (Comments?)

On Flowmaster's website
www.flowmastermufflers.com
they have sound clips of many of their systems on actual vehicles! However, the 50 series seems to have a "hollow" or "tinny" sound mixed in with the roar. (Not talking about the "whine" of the engine - this sound seems to be coming from the exhaust.)
Can anyone else hear what I am describing?

While you are there,
check out the 70 series Big Block II.
They have sound clips of it on both a GM 5.3,
and a GM 6.0. Does it sound just as loud as the 50, (without the "tinny" effect) or are my ears playing tricks on me ???

Has anyone here heard a 50 or 70 series in person?
How does it sound?
It is a little or a lot quieter than a 40?

Thanks!

Will changing to a Flowmaster muffler, but staying with the stock pipe after the muffler provide the same benefits (HP / MPG) as an entire cat-back system?

Will it still sound as good as the system?

If the stock pipe is not the way to go,
rather than buying the whole cat-back system,
would it be just as good to buy the muffler and go to a local shop to have the pipe(s) custom bent? (this is not about the money... I just think a local shop might make an even better fitting pipe than the kit!)

Finally, it sounds like Bowtie is saying that a single tailpipe is better (performance-wise) than duals. Can anyone confirm or deny? ???

I ordered the Flowmaster Cat back Force II, expect it in this week. I will post results afterward.

I too, called Flowmaster, and they, as well as others have stated that the single out exhaust will assist in more HP, due to the 5.3 needing a little back pressure, which the duals provide less of.

I went with the flowmaster 40 series and love it >:D

I did a dual rear exit. I ordered the muffler and 2 8 in stainless tips from summit. That's the cheapest place I could find.

I had a local shop run new larger piping from the cat back to the new flowmaster, then dual exits custom bent around the spare tire and exiting straight out the rear.
Muufler - $60
Tips - $20 each
Labor & piping - $145

I love the sound! >:D It is loud though. Can't ignore it from inside the cab. That combined with the UPD & K&N combo gave me a nice power boost and around another 1.5 mpg

Had a shop custom bend my setup i have a flowmaster 70 series dual outlet muffler and custome pipes with heat shield by the tires total cost was 280 bucks. Sounds great no drine inside you can hear the rumble with the windows down and by far made the truck sound alot better. anyhow that my 2 cents. l8tr
