So I’ve got an 02 avalanche. Fog lights inop, headlight door chime is out as well. My chime works if I leave the key in the ignition, but no chime if I leave the headlights on. No fog lights, also no indicator on the fog light button when I push it. I had a blow daytime running light 10 amp fuse which I replaced. But still no fog lights. Any ideas? Tia.

A couple of thoughts:

First, fuses do not blow for no good reason.

Very unlikely a fuse will just get old and decide to blow.

Second, poor grounds have long since been a problem with these trucks.

There are several ground points in, around and under these trucks.

It is always possible that the fog light circuit back fed through the DRL circuit looking for a ground and that caused your fuse to blow.

If it were me, I would locate, clean and verify every ground point before I spent any other time looking for problems in that 20 year old wiring.

Shortly after purchasing my AV last year I noticed that the fog lights didn't work. After making sure of how to turn them on and when they are allowed to turn on, I started at the fuse box. Fuse was good and there was power to it. Swapped the relay for the lamps with another of the same config. Clicks when selected on but no lights. Since both were out I didn't suspect both bulbs would have been bad but that was the next thing to check. Went underneath to get to the back of the lamp housing to check the bulbs and noticed that both had been unplugged from the lamp socket. Why I have no idea. Completely stock behind the grill and the bumper looks to be original with stone chips etc. so it doesn't seem like the bumper would have been taken off and someone just forgot to plug them back in. Anyway, sometimes it's just the obvious thing you didn't check first.
