Ford Brings Out New Extended Expedition

FORD PLANS NEW SUV .... Ford Motor Company is developing an extended version of its Expedition sport utility vehicle (SUV). According to the Detroit Free Press, the new model will be about a foot longer than the Expedition, but smaller than the Excursion, which Ford will stop producing in 2004. The Free Press notes that Ford will market the SUV to compete against the Chevy Suburban and GMC Yukon XL. The new model is expected to hit U.S. dealer showrooms around 2005 or 2006.


Bigger is better...right?? ???
 
I had one. It was already longer than a Suburban! There is already plenty of room behind the back (3rd) seat! I guess a stretch Expeditiion will cover for the loss of the Excursion. Maybe then the Expedition could come with the optional V10! That would be cool!

I was checking out a new truck out at work today one of the men has a new ford f250 pick up with a V10 under the hood so i way not a V10 Expidition

The Avalanche, at 220.8 is 1 1/2" longer than the 219.3" Suburban. The Excursion is 226.7" long. The Avalanche is listed as being 74.5" tall while Ford reports that the Excursion is 77.2" to the top.
 
An expedition will always be and expedition I had an excursion and that is a BIG truck driving an AV or a suburban is like driving a Car when you are coming form the Excursion. LETS Just hope the Gas milage isnt like teh excursion:)
 
Guess I was off! For some reason, I thought the Expedition I had (1999) was longer than a Suburban) Since I am wrong and big enough to admit it :-[ , here are the specs on both trucks, 2003 model year.

Ford Expedition:
Overall Length 205.8
Overall Width 78.7
Overall Height 77.6
Wheelbase 119

Suburban :
Overall Length 219.3 (3/4 or 1/2 ton)
Overall Width (78.8-1/2 ton | 79.8-3/4 ton)
Overall Height (75.4-1/2 ton 4x4 | 76.9-3/4 ton)
Wheelbase 130.0 (3/4 or 1/2 ton)

the truck you have now the Av is longer than the exedition just so happens ford trucks are higher than GM so the height makes it look bigger.
 
In my mind the Suburban still holds the crown for the ultimate in that sizing....but I have to give it to Ford for trying to better the Expedition.....do I think they will succeed?...No not really, but they are putting forth the effort.... :B:
 
They may have better luck with this one this time ...this reminds me of the Trailblazer EXT...and the Envoy....it seems as though everyone is looking to add a 3rd row seating..... :B:

Also results in a higher rollover rate/possibility, if I'm not mistaken. :cautious:
 
They keep getting longer and longer. Eventually they will need to be hinged in the middle to make the corners.

Not that I'm a Ford fan or anything, but have you noticed how many Fords are in the top ten in Sales? The reason we own a '96 Explorer is because that's the vehicle GM should have had at the time.

Av clears height fine. Expedition was closer and the antennae hit every time going in or out of the garage. But, the Av is longer and actually tucks under the loft I built in our garage for storage. 2" taller and I would be re-engineering my garage loft! Guess I'll have to carefully consider my options when it's time to get new rubber. I'd like to stuff larger tires under the Av.

One reason that the Ford Taurus is a high seller is that it is sold to a lot of fleets. When I worked in sales at H-P many moons ago (early 90s) I got a new Taurus every year. This is not to disparage the Tauruses of that era anyway - they never stranded me, but then again I never drove them more than 15,000 miles before getting a new one... :)

Here I am wondering why all the rental agencies around here are always so packed with Taurus's....they seem to be a favorite of car rental places....the local enterprise definitely favors these... :B:
