Front End Noise

:7: Well Avalanche Fans, my Avalanche was the best truck i have ever owned, until it rang up about 15,000 miles. Then a front end noise developed sounding like a bad wheel bearing. I'm lucky to have a dealer like Harry Browns of Faribault, Minnesota that doesn't try to make one believe the noise is normal. they have tried every thing to get rid of it. One set of wheel bearings and two front differentials plus a transfer case switch later, and the noise is still there. And its not a little noise, it is like I said like a very bad wheel bearing. Monday the truck has an appointment wiht a GM Tech, I think the phrase "Buy Back" will be heard. Anyone else with simular story?

:) Well here's the end of the story, GM sent two of their techs out to check out the problem. While the bearing noise sounded as if it orginated from the front end it ended up being a bad bearing in the rear end. I can't praise the fellows in the service department of Harry Brown's enough, they did an excellant job. Plus my GM warrenty came though big, if I would of had to pay for this out of pocket we would be talking somewere aroung $6,500. maybe a little less if they would of figured out the problem before putting in the two front ends. Oh well, it worked out good for me, and my truck is back on the road!

This was the same situation for me. Loud whine from the front, even the techs thought it was the front but it turned out to be the rear differential. However my dealer got it down the first time - was very weird how the sound was originating from the front!

Interesting. Mine has been make noise that won't go away. I thought it was the tires, but I have rotated the them and it does not help. Mine is going back to the dealer this week. Last time I was there they replaced left wheel seal. Makes me think that I have the same problem as the others. Mine is only 2WD so it is not the front. The noise sounds like it's up front. Thanks for the tip :B:

Dropped mine off at the dealer today. A couple of hours later I got a call. They told me the noise is coming from the rearend. They will open it up today and see what the problem is. Should have it back by tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for the tip everyone. I kept telling myself that it was the tires making the noise.

Funny thing is that my noise was louder than my 40 series flowmaster

Just got another call. Looks like one of my inner bearing is chewed up. It is soo bad that they have to replace my whole rearend cause the bearing race was spinning and damaged my housing.

Time to go pick up my rental cause they will have it for a few days till they get a new rearend installed. Maybe they can drop in a G80 limited slip while they are at it since my Av is stock
