front mounted or rear mounted

IMHO...front mount....Livernois makes one

oohhh...a Nelson front mount...sounds interesting

I like the Nelson front mount kit myself as well. Having had turbos on past vehicles, the less piping, the less lag IMO. Plus it looks really cool

Yep, he just put one on a Sily, Tahoe, or something similar to our trucks with impressive results. ?It also comes in a basic non-intercooled kit that very affordable as well as a intercooled kit that should make some SERIOUS hp.

I've got the Livernois set up but, they are coming out with a new system that uses a Log Manifold instead of the tube style... I have my system for over Two years and it runs great!

One of the things i don't like about the remote systems is that you are putting a lot of very important parts very close to the ground near road dirt, water and what ever else can get thrown up under the truck... Especialy having a Z71 i bet you do go off road from time to time... The other thing is I don't like the oil system being dependant on an eletric pump and if you manage to some how rip one of those oil lines under the truck and you will be hating life....

Of course this is all personal opinion... I have nothing against remote systems in general, I think they just aren't the greatest thing for a truck that sees off pavement action...

Now that said, on the Livernois sytem they do put the Intercooler down under the front of the truck but, it does sit up above the bottom of the bumper... I have never caught mine on anything... yet. LoL But, damaging the IC would cost a lot less to fix then other things would...

The picture below shows how it sits on my cladded truck, i did trim the bumper back some to get more airflow, I also added a set to of twin 10inch Eletric fans to the Intercooler to keep my IAT's under control...

Both kits make great power, I don't have any negatives to say about the front mount.

We just finished up an '02 Avalanche with all the goodies, front mount turbo, intercooler, water injection, 42lb injectors, intank pump, gauges and tuning.? The customer loves the truck and boost is almost instant.
The truck doesn't have to downshift anymore to climb hills, it will make 5psi while brake torque'n it on the line and once again, boost is just waiting to help out, it's that instant.

here are some pics, feel free to ask questions,? http://www.ls1truck.com/storage/traceturbo

Great pics...i love the cut out for the IC...looks like he is ready for some efans too!

Looks good Farmtuc.... Makes me happy to see some more Turvo AV's poping up!

thanks guys, this kit is awesome on these heavy trucks, no more downshifting, the truck feels extremely light and it effortlessly accelerates.

i didn't want to do any dyno pulls on this one because it has 140K miles and the customer, believe it or not, drives very conservatively, he just wanted power when he needed it, offroad, towing, etc.

thanks,
allen

He's going to tow with a front mount turbo? What kind of EGT's is he getting?

sure, it'll be fine.

the rear mount isn't that much cooler than a front mount and i tow my heavy car trailer with vehicles on it all the time.  i never see high egt's.
with such low boost levels it doesn't seem to be much of a concern.  i can see how 30+ psi on the diesels would be a problem, but 5-8psi it stays somewhat low.  at those levels the a/f ratio is what i keep tabs on.

i'll take a measurement some day and post it up.

later,
allen

are you noticing high egt's with yours?  last time i checked, a good run was about 1650egt's, which is ok, but i'm not sure if i got a good reading.

I run at 1,100-1,200 degrees crusing at 75-80mph. Livernois said that is very good because they usualy see around 1,400 degrees on the highway with their installs but, if trying to tow that is going to go up a lot... From what i have seen on other forums most Turbo V8's are running like 1,200-1,400 degrees on the highway... But, those same forums all seem to agree that towing is out of the question with a front mount, unless you just don't go above like 50mph.

But, that said we all know that everybodys set ups run diffirent...

I am planning on getting Meth injection soon though and that will help bring the EGT's down. I don't have anything to tow at the moment but, you never know what toys will follow me home. LoL

exhaust gas temperatures

Thanks ky
but isnt there a thermal tape for your exhaust headers/manifold that will bring down the temp i thought I've seen something somewhere for that.

also Tybrne (sp* sorry)  about how much would a non intercooled turbo cost out the door to NC?

This truck has meth and only 5psi.  It's just like towing with a diesel heavily loaded, you have to be educated on towing, not that you're not, but you know what i mean, just be easy on it and it will be ok.  one just can't floor it up a 5 mile hill and think everything is going to be ok.

i'd like to know what my sts kit is at honestly, i tow a lot with mine and up big hills, full boost for about 1 min, lol, everything is ok for now.

FWIW my EGT stays around 1400 up to 1550 in the summer, towing, w/ my foot in it....and my sensor is about 3" off of the head, right at the 1st bend on a set of St Steel LT headers.

Yea, i am at 10lbs of boost now.  >:D  But, my EGT's are right about the same as they were at 7.5lbs. I am sure the truck would be fine towing, in fact would probably drive great towing... I just get paranoid about my baby.

As soon as i get back from my vacation i am going to work on getting the Meth kit, i just have to decide between the Stage 1 or Stage 2 Meth set up, leaning towards the Stage 2 for future madness...

BBAV, i don't know that your EGTs can really be compared to ours because our EGT sensor is about 2 inches after the turbo... I wonder what the temps would be if we measured at the same place as you?  ???
