So I love my 2002 z66 a lot. It just recently hit 200k miles and I started having problems. Ultimately I’ve had two different mechanics both tell me I need a new fuel pump. I’ve bought the fuel pump but want to know your thoughts about cutting an access panel from the back seat vs. dropping the tank. Thanks in advance for your answers and opinions.

There are those that feel this is a good option.

I choose not to do so.

But, which ever way you decide to go, make certain you only use an OEM fuel pump and not an aftermarket one.

That is, unless you enjoy performing this repair over and over again.

Best of luck with your repair.

I dropped my tank. It isn’t all that difficult. If the truck is running, run it until there are just a few gallons left. Especially if you live in the rust belt I would drop the tank vs cutting a hole. There were other things that needed to be repaired on mine besides just the pump that required dropping the tank anyway.
