This is a strange problem, and it may be unique to my situation. ?When backing out of the driveway at night, the headlights illiminate my white garage door, which then reflects off of the midgate window. ?So when I look out the back, the glare from the headlights on the garage door makes it almost impossible to see if anything is behind me. ?Once I start to turn, the reflection finally goes away.

While driving at night, I can also see the dashboard console lights reflecting in the midgate window, which is somewhat of a distraction as well.

I'm not sure there is anything I can do to help the situation (besides painting my garage door black or removing the midgate window!)

I get the same reflections in the rear window at night. I feel it has to do with the dark tint.

I learned to ignore it. You could always take the window out. ;D

Midlifecrisis,

This will also happen if you have your windows tinted. You'll get use to it after awhile.

Could this also be corrected by GM with a slight change in the windows angle? If it had a degree or two of rearward slant, wouldn't the glare be lost?

Yes, it would.

This is the only problem I sited in my JD Powers poll. At first I found it distracting but I have gotten use to it and I would be happier if it wasn't there.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I thought for sure I was the only one in this situation. I have gotten more used to it, but I just hope it isn't too much of a problem for my wife. Then again, she sits a little lower since she is 8" shorter than I.

I've had this problem also, especially after a cleaning of the rear window....the HVAC shines brightly! :cautious:

Another solution here would be the ability to dim the HVAC panel controls separately form the instrument cluster. This would certainly help as well.

There is another thread about window tiniting that mentions a glare reduction film for the front window that is not colored. I'm not familiar with the product, but perhaps a local window tinting place cuold be of some help. Perhaps this product could be used in this type of application to reduce the reflection?

I mostly get the glare during twighlight. The defroster lines react like mirrors. It's rare, but like everyone else, you get used to it.

Just drove my AV for the first time at night and noticed the center panel lights reflecting off of the rear window glass into my rearview mirror. :6: Does anyone else have this problem? I have tried adjusting the mirror, but I can't seem to remedy the problem. Any suggestions? :0:

Yes, I have noticed this too. I have learned to live with it. I also have noticed the reflection in the side view mirrors as well. I am going to add window tint (35% front and limo tint rear). Maybe this will help. On a lighter note, the only time my AV (Onyx Black) looks clean is at night.... so I am taking the good with the bad.

Imsamel,

Every Av has this problem. Is your back window the factory dark tint ? If not, Get it tinted and that will knock down the amount of reflection

There's a thread already going on this subject, just go into the search mode.
Tint will only make the reflections worse, just something you have to live with. (y)

Fact of life I'm afraid, unless Chevy recognizes this problem and changes the rear glass positioning in the new models.... :(

While it varies from person to person, you will most likely find yourself ignoring it soon. After three months, I see it if I am looking for it, but even with the significant night driving I do, I no longer see it. Also remember that you can dim your instrument cluster and radio display using the dial alongside your headlight control. This helps significantly as well. (I also find it fights fatigue; bright lights in an otherwise dark environment make me groggy.)

I started the original thread on this subject. After 2 months, I don't really notice the glare any more. I recently drove the Av on a 3-hour trip at night and had no problems at all.

Boar, right on. That's also what I did. I actually found the lighting too bright at full so I run it about half. That has drastically reduced the brightness of the reflection. You are all also right about forgetting about it after a while. You do just get used to it and stop noticing it. Your seating height will also affect the reflection. Try adjusting the seat a little higher or lower - assuming you have power seats. It's all about the angles...

You

It's the angle between the mirror and the window and the angle between the rear window and your eyes.

I've seen it like everyone else. I've begun to ignore it. Adjusting my seat did actually help and made me more comfortable too. :) Chevy needs to add a little curve to the glass. That'll jack the price up a little more. :7:

This was discussed in an earlier thread but I couldn't find it. Another solution is to change the angle of the rear window glass. It is pretty much straight vertical right now. A degree or two of a lean outwards would help tremendously and would still leave for a flat panel of glass. However, a lot of this varies from person-to-person as it is all in the angles between you eyes and the window. If you are taller and not bothered now, tipping out the window could make it worse for you while correcting it for a majority of others.

Jamie

Thanks for all of the experienced input. I couldn't find the thread posted earlier either, but I attribute that to this being my first experience participating in a forum, still too many things to learn. I know that I looked through most of the pages and the info is almost overwhelming, but I like a good challenge. ;D Next time I will dim the lights a little more and hang in there. I am sure I will forget about the lights around the same time I tame the beast and feel like truck has become an extension of myself. :B:
Afterall, I love my AV
