GM ANNOUNCES 2007 AVALANCHE LTZ

I clicked the link to the AV, and after reading about it, I followed from that page and clicked the link to the GMC Denali. Read that one and went to the link for the '07 GMC Yukon and let me tell ya, the new pic of the regular GMC Yukon, it looks gay. Someone at GM is going to lose their job over that front end.

Just my opinion, but I love the look of the WBH with flares and side molding.  That new one isn't getting me to trade mine in anytime soon for sure.

Someone totally screwed up that design.  I hate it with a passion.  It looks like $h!t...  It won't hurt me to see the AV line dropped if they are going to be looking like that.  I don't want mine to be grouped in the same class.

I'll wait to pass judgement until I can actually see one in the flesh so to speak.
Sometimes the pics don't do a vehicle justice.

I do like the front end of the new Tahoe and it looks like it carries over to the new AV.
Only time will tell. A very short time.

The NEW NOSE makes the AV look just like that FUGLY Honda "Sludge-Line" :D:
You hit the nail right the head John. I agree with you, when I first looked at it, I thought it was the Ridgeline, other than the sail and the cargo boxes, there are no defining features that link it to the earlier AVs. I really hate that new nose, I liked the powerbat going from one side to the other. Taking away the drl/fog assembly is another disappointment. All the curves along with the nose, really do make it look gay, IMO. It really isn't what I expected it to look like from the one w/ the camo (n) :D:.

This is great news!!!!  Now i know i'll pay off my Av.  Call me set-in-my-ways...but i love my AV even more now. To each their own.

I'm having trouble visualizing flares on those new fenders.  :cautious:

I have seen crossovers like the murano.  I love the avalanche but stop crossing over.  Soon this will be a suburban and not a truck.  Why do they hate the avalanche?  Such a great truck, crossed over enough.  Stop messing up a good thing.  The auto window was enough, now just maintain.  Other than more power and beefier drivetrain of course.

The article said it gets more power, but I wonder if they'll continue to use the 5.3 and the crappy 4L60.

Maybe they will put in the new 6 speed tranny.  Or how about this idea, a stickshift in a truck.  What a concept.  Maybe that will be introduced as a concept in the year 2010 at detroit.  I miss trucks with stickshifts.

Anyone have factory specs for the 2007?
IE. dimensions and weights, etc.
How does it relate size-wise and capability-wise with 1st generation AV?

more then likely it will be about the same physically...

component specs should be on par with 2007 suburban/tahoe...

so I would look at those to get idea of engine tranny etc etc...

ME TOOOO!!!!  I LOVE my WBH, with the fender flares and side molding- it gives it some character.  The 2007's look too plain and boring.

How about this (from another board):

"The following is a the lastest news I have been able to glean from several sources on current on planned changes to GM trucks. First there is the LBZ Dmax that most have heard about by now. What may not be known is that the block casting has been revised to increase the material in the main bearing webs and there is a new bearing design to support the crankshaft as well. The connecting rods had been updated as well and now have a larger I-beam cross section and larger wrist pins in pistons as well along with a thicker head casting in the combustion chamber and block deck areas. They also lowered the compression ratio from 17.5 to 1 to 16.8 to 1. There is a updated injection system that runs at more than 25,000 PSI now that feeds injectors with 7 ports on them that can fires up to 5 times per cycle and a new 32 bit ECM to control them too. They added improved cold weather starting with updated glow plugs and they are relocated into injector spray path and there is also a 1000watt grid heater in the intake to help as well (better have some good strong batteries too because it looks like preheat current is now in excess of 200 amps). To further assist in warmup the driver will be able to select a warmup mode that increases the idle speed and places the transmission in gear while the park pawl is still engaged to load the engine further to help it warm up. Next there is the V6 Dmax diesel that does seem to exist at least in the testing stage and has been seen in a test vehicle. This new 4.9 diesel is said to be at rated around 270 HP and 475ft lbs of torque. There is a new 6 sp transmission in the works for it called the 6L90E and the engine could see the light of day in production trucks in 07 or 08 but not with the new tranny at first.

Next lets talk about the Allison or MW7 as it to has been changed for 06. First there is the upgrades to 6 speeds but they also upgraded and increased the strength of the torque converter and added additional clutch discs to the C2 pack to handle the extra torque of the LBZ. There is also a upgraded pump in it and upgraded P1 and P2 planetaries. They added a tap shift feature too that gears came be select by touch or manually. (not sure if this is a good idea though) And finally they added a traction control feature where tha transmission can be started in second and the engine output limited as well to limit wheel spin on slick surfaces. There are rumors of future upgrades in the work for the Ally for it to be abe to handle up to 800 ft lbs (currently rated at 650 now)

Now lets talk about the upcoming 7.5 V10. First it seems that it will be a 20 valve design to begin with (not 30). As far as size, the engine is said to be about 1.5 inches longer than a 8.1 and about the same amout narrower because it is based on the 6.0 block. Next there is the issue of the firing order and crank indexing. Normally you need a 72 degree block for a V10 to have even firing with a common journal shared between cylinders on nearly the same plane but opposite banks. Ford uses a offset crank to maintain a even firing order but it appears that GM is taking the same path that Dodge did and using a uneven firing rate with a 90 degree block and no offsets on crank. In stock truck form it appears (according to computer models) will have more than 400 FT LBS of torque availible from 1000 to 5000 RPM with a torque peak of around 460 ft lbs at 4000 RPM and with at least 440 ft lbs between 2000 and 4000 RPM (could make a great gas tow motor) and HP will be about 400 HP at around 5000 RPM. There also seems to be a corvette version in the works that produces about 575 ft lbs of torque and nearly 500 HP! (if this is true the vet would be seriously fast and likely displace viper). I will post more news as I find it."

Could we see a 6 speed tranny and V-6 diesel on the GMT 900s?  I don't buy the 'Vette V-10 - we've already got a 505 HP Z06, why bother with "nearly 500 HP" in a V-10?

First the v6 diesel would be great.  They should put it in many applications like jeep has with the liberty.  Why anyone buys a gas v-10 is beyond me.  Just stupid.  Lower numbers than a diesel with worse mileage.  Now for the vette
it already smokes the viper, at least the z06.  I was on the f#rd website and they linked a comparo between the vette, fort gt and the viper.  The vette won all major categories.  Braking, quarter, 0-60, skidpad.  The only one it lost was on a track and it lost by .3 seconds on a 1 minute, 37 second track.  Could be climate, driver or a host of other factors.  So the link on ford proved that the $65k vette was better than their $155k gt.  Dodge at $85k was the worst on all accounts.  So, why a gas v-10 is beyond me.

i work at a chevy dealer and when i first saw pics of the new tahoe i hated it. but when we got them in it really looks nice.  i think this is the same for the avalanche.  dont get me wrong im not traden in my 03 nfe with cladding anytime soon.  but they will ride alot better do to the fact they got rid of torsen bars and have coilovers in the front and  better engines.  but as of now i do like the older style better but just be open about it cause the new tahoe/suburban is really goodlooken
