GM Going In The Right Direction??

I read the Sports Sedan review in Motortrend with the BMW330, the Infiniti C35, and the Cadillac CTS. ?The BMW although the most expensive took second to the C35 when it came down to performance. ?Infiniti copied the BMW's suspension and actually come up with a car that had a better feel then the orginal. ?Although the CTS was rear wheel drive like the other two cars the BMer and the Infiniti were better drivers' machines. ?The CTS is kind out there with styling. ?I love the interior and the new styling but I sure don't like the big rear end that includes 3 cubic feet of red plastic. ?And who wants a Cadillac that only comes with 220 horsepower, blah :D:. ?The Infiniti had a low 6 second 0-60 while the Caddy was low 7's.

Cadillac is usually a pretty good indication of where GM is going. ?Do you all like the CTS, do you think GM knows what they're doing?

I'm still holding out for the GTO, 350 horses?? Ahh yeah.

We can only hope that Lutz works his magic at GM...

The market for Caddies and BMW's is very diferent - who wants to see a blue hair going 0-60 in 6 sec :)

Good call about the blue hairs. Lord knows I have tons of them here in Florida.

All car mfg go through stages....some good some bad.

Only time will tell but as far as my truck is concerned I think they did a damn good job.

I agree with the comments on the styling cues the current Cadillac lineup is using. I personally don't care for the headlamp pod assemblies. I really like both Escalades but that big-azz light box doesn't look all that good to me. I would like to see the hard lines softened a little more. It seems as though each new Cadillac to hit the showroom was straight from the concept model.

GM makes such a big deal about the CTS's manual Getrag tranny and being track tested in Germany. ?With all their hype about their car driving like a BMW, it sounds like they're going after that market. ?Cadillac is trying to get new blood into their showrooms... ?

I'm going to go check them out. ?There is also a red G35 with a aero body kit down at the Infiniti delearshop that looks sweet too. ?

I'm sticking with my Av but The Wife might need a new car. ? You guys have great taste in cars what would you recommend in the 30K+ range for a sports sedan?

My opinion of Cadillacs (all of them) has been and still is that they will never, never, ever be able to escape their image that GM has created (created? evolved? doesn't matter). Please don't tell me about the early ones and how cool/forward-thinking they were (I agree), because I'm not old enough to remember :)

Anyway, my mother-in-law has had many, many of them over the years (yes, pink ones, before someone asks! :9: ) all different varieties, and I have driven several of them, including the (beautifully styled IMO) Allante and the STS. I'm sticking to my OPINION (here goes...please don't flame me too much...)

Cadillacs are for older persons (absolutely no offense intended), are marketed as such (regardless of new, "european-ish" offerings), and will just never be accepted as world-class, luxury, gotta-have-one, automobiles. Even our very modest german car that isn't even close to being in the same universe as the cars stated in this thread make me go "how'd they engineer this thing to drive so well" each and every time I get behind the wheel.

Even hiring a team of the best German engineers in the world won't solve Cadillac's "image" issue. I would predict that even if they could create (and do they really want to?) an all-around better performer, the auto magazines would still put it at the bottom of the heap.

That's where Ford/Lincoln got it right. Take the Ford-owned Jaguar brand and re-badge it as a Lincoln. Not only a Motor Trend car of the year, but a decently priced nice riding/handling package. Lincoln LS.

BradyB, if I were getting a "nice" car for your mid-30k range, this is what I'd be getting!

I KNOW that I didn't just see a link to a F**d site at the Chevy Avalanche Fan Club of North America, did I? Isn't that against the rules, moderators? ;)

Just kidding. You're right, the LS is a beautiful car.

Yeah the LS's are cool but they look too much like a BMW from the front with the four round headlights. ?My mom almost bought one before she considred the S type and then finally decided on an X5. ?The LS is a very solid car but it doesn't have the Wow factor it had a couple of years ago. ?If someone wants a 3 series they should just buy a three series. ?

I've never been a fan of the Japanese Euro wanna be's but I saw a black G35 that looked really original.

This one's a tangled web . . I'd hope that if Caddy really got it right, that the press would acknowledge it! ?Image is a tougher one - given Caddy's demographic data on some models being anyone "from 60 to dead". ?But if folks like the rebadged Jag that Lincoln has to offer, and choose it over the genuine Jag, I think that Caddy has a hope. ?I'll admit my American car bias - never bought foreign (though I did buy a Ferd once ;D). ?From that point of view I find it exciting when the Vette comes out on the top of the heap against the Germans(after some really poor offerings in the late '70's one must remember), and when American vehicles such as the Av make significant contributions to automotive market as a whole.

OK . . . I'll get off of the soapbox now . .
