Depends... Like how much bass you want
in your music. How much power you want
to push..

I have the four banger and its enough for what
I need. I listen to alot of Hiphop/Rap music
and it is sufficent for what I want.

It is not on the level of a large woofer though.
I'm sure a single 12 or 15" would be even
better. But you would need either a custom box
or a ready made box that just sits in the back....

Mine is great for what I want. The midgate is functional
when I want to use it I just take it out from behind the seats.
Its functional and pratical.

Check out the "Fourbanger numbers finally" thread in the
A/V section. That will give you a good idea of the amount
of bass that they put out.

Also you may want to ask to hear someone's system at
a GTG or something. That will really be good because then
you can look at the quality while listening to the bass...

Hope this helps (y)

Any other ???s about the 4 banger enclosure feel free to
PM me...

Thanks , i am thinking about pushing about 600-1200 watt amp and would like to have the thump when i listen to the R&B but it need to be able to handle the hard hits of metal like Distrurbed as well .

I am leaning more towards the JL4 banger and saw the thread about the DB's but just dont really know what that means , and no one that i know of in our club is thumpin at this time that I can hear .

Also I would like to make the box my self since I have everthing i need ( except that skill part lol ) so the JL looks like it would be easier to manufacture . Has anyone out there tried to make their own ?

I have a "4 banger" and 2 months later still very pleased. I listen to R&B and Hip Hop mostly but the kids listen to about everything. It sounds great and hits hard. It doesnt carry like a 15 would so your nieghbors cant hear you if your windows are up, which I like. I doesnt pick up the lowest of the low but it still sounds great. When it comes to the box. Buy it from Phil. Unless you know what you are doing you will not be able to get a box of this quality for the money by building it yourself. Glenn is a great guy to get your subs from also. Much love for both of them.

I cant really compare the 4banger to my system (picture above) as I haven't heard the 4banger. I am very happy with my system and am able to hit very low tones with the bass. Like the 4banger though it will not really rattle yuor neighbors house like a set of 12's or 15's would but it does rattle almost everything inside the truck.

As far as easy to make, I did not put together the 2 boxes but I did watch the guy who did and it was fairly easy I'm pretty confident I could build a second set myself after watching him. (wiring them is a different story) >:D

If anyone in florida has a 4banger system and would like to compare please let me know and I will meet up with you. If you have any questions feel free to pm me and I will be more than happy to try and help you out.

I have a slightly biased opinion since I have the 4 banger and mine was used to be metered and get the numbers.

However, before buying it I have heard many different boxes at many different GTG's. Specifically I heard the 2 banger, 4 banger and Edward K's midgate custom along with a few others.

Edward's was certainly impressive but I felt the 4 banger was comparable to it and a good solid bass solution. The bass is hard and tight.

As far as the numbers, if you listen to any noise above 100db for 30 or 60 mins you can suffer hearing damage. So at 135-140db you're well into the serious noise.

I can tell you in all honesty on the average day I'll listen to mine near max volume for one song that I like, and then turn it down to about 60-70% volume for the rest of my ride. It's nice for a bit, but at least for me anyway, I can only take it for so long.

As far as which is the best, that's not so important.

The only thing that's important is you're happy with whatever you decide on.

With you having a 2002 I think you may have a few more options considering that the rear seats are different for the WBH models..... You could go with the duel 10 set up that goes under your seat if you really want to bump.

I've got a 4 banger and I'm very happy with it, but it is really starting to piss me off when my friend with his 1- 15" sub, in an explorer, pulls up beside me and drowns me out. Other than that I get good solid punchy bass from the four banger, oh and did I meantion that it is surprisingly loud for 6 1/2 inch subs, and all I listen to is r&b and hip hop. Functionality wise, I just take it out when it's time to use the midgate.

I must admit though Obsydians set up does have me curious though. I'm like if 6 1/2s sound like this then 8's would really drop and be louder. But then you have to consider sealed vs ported and sound quality vs loudness and all that craps.

Hope this helps, but probably not........oh and as far as reconstructing the boxes.....NOT Recommended with the 4-banger. #1 you will be hard pressed to get a better built box for the price and # 2 tuning ports is a biiiiaaaatch! ;)

Obsydian : is there a way I can get ahold of the person that made your boxes ? and how much he charges ? I would rather make my own but understand if he does not want to give up the secrets . OH will that design also fit a 10 round ?

I have the box with the dual 10's under the seat and am thinking of going a different route, it hits fairly hard but I just dont know if it really has the airspace for the 10's I'm going to try some poly fil and see what happens, I also noticed though that the holes cut for the 10's weren't quite right and some of my mounted screws totally missed the wood..might be a small air leak that I need to look into

i saw that one also , but the midgate was severly lessend and i have no desire to mount the amps on the back of the seat . Plan on getting a 4 wheeler soon and just dont want that risk / hassle with damage .

I can get you his number or just be a go between either way works for me. His price is $250 for both boxes without the subs. The design specs I used are on the other thread, and I also added a link to AUAV's original specs. As far as putting 2 10's under the seats it is very possible, but you will be cramped for airspace. However as much as we tried to play with numbers we could not get 2 10" solobarics under the rear seat. I'm very happy with my current setup but we are working on a full fiberglass setup under the rear seat that is ported and then relocate the amps into the rear doors (got that idea from Enkei, very nice clean setup he had there).

You'll be amazed how much performance you can lose due to an airleak. Be sure all of the box's seams are tight, and you can always cauld or liquid nail them just to be sure, if you'd like. As for the subs, some thin weather stripping around the baskets can help a lot as well.

The polyfill will typically change the output specs to appear as if the enclosure suddenly gained 10 to 15% more internal volume. It's not a drastic change by any means, but could give you the result you wanted.
