Going Crazy...Anyone? Creaking Noise In Midgate?

I think I am going to go crazy. :8: About 3 months ago my AV started to make a minor creaking noise in the midgate area. It wasn't bad at all, but it has become a lot worse. Now whenever I go over the slightest bump it makes a squeaking/creaking noise and I am going mad.

Anyone else have this problem? ??? I am sure it is just a bad seal or something and the truck goes in this week to get repaired. Just wondering if others have experienced this and I can point the service department in the right direction. :cautious: Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have had mine for a bit over a year now and it got real bad around months 4 - 8 but has calmed down again to where I don't usually hear it................that or I may just have tuned it out. I was unable to trace it for the dealer though.

I feel for ya. My drivers side seat is squeaking all the time and it's starting to get real annoying. I just can't find the time to take it to the dealer for something so minor.

I had a similar problem...I had a cracking, popping, rattling noice coming from "back there" when I went over bumps and what not. I figured out that it was the rear window clasps that make contact with the rear window defogger. I put a piece of paper between the window and both the clamps and drove around for a few days. Whamo took care of the problem....so I got some dielectric grease put it on the contacts of the clamp and the window and no there's no more noise.

If the dealer can't come up with something on Wed when it goes in I will defintely try your solution. Thanks for the advice bro.

Mine started to make noise after I cranked the Torsion bars - I have been lazy and haven't went back to make sure everything is tight.

I had a creak/rattle a couple times. It turned out that the midgate was not seated fully. It looked closed but one side had not fully snapped into place. Now I lean on them when they are closed just to make sure they are fully seated.

Well the saga is over. I brought it into the dealer and they found a broken/loose defroster line that was banging against the window. Took the window off and sottered it up. Now it is tight as the day I picked her up. Love it again.

I also did a few other "little" mods that weekend, but want to get some pics before I spill the beans. Just a hint, it is like driving a different vehicle.

Thanks again for your help guys.

Try placing your hand in the middle of the midgate and slamming it shut.

Mine was creaking too... I found it was the copper contacts for the defroster.

I dab of WD-40 and they shut up. :)

Also, for the sake of mentioning it... the midgate seems to have two stage latches.

They'll latch, but not latch completely. ?If you look at the plastic tabs that are on the upper part of the midgate, and below the crossbar - they should be VERY close, about 1/16 an inch off the crossbar. ?

I thought I had mine shut correctly ever since I owned it, but noticed a few weeks ago that the rubber bumpers behind the tabs were not against the crossbar. ?It took me a couple of slams to get it to shut tightly, which cured a minor water leak problem I had, and a rattle from behind the back seats.

Well I brought mine into the dealership and they found a broken defroster connection which they re-welded. That solved 80% of the noises. Now I have the normal squeak over bumps that seems to be pretty common. I'll shoot it with a little WD-40 and see what happens.

Thanks for the tip.
