Hey everyone,

I need your help...Please!!!

I was rear ended this past weekend and that forced me into the car in front of me which happend to be my Dad.

I received no damage to the rear end because my trailer hitch stiks out about a foot. The bad part is I just installed a new Westin Bull bar and now it's trashed. The Bull bar got pushed back into my bumper and created a crease. Now mind you, it's not a big dent/crease, but it is noticable.....

Is there any way to heat the bumper and force the bumber back into shape or am I going to have to replace the bumper?....If it can be heated will this also releive the stress marks (whiting) that plastic makes when bent?

If anyone knows, please share!!!

Thanks,

GoBot (Bill)

PS. my dads cars will need to have his bumper and trunk replaced.

Sorry about that Bill  Do you have any pics. I wanted to see that Bull bar after you put it on, now I would like to see how it held up. If you put a new one on would it hide the crease?? That's what I would do if you can. I will give you some Karma in light of your smite situation. ;D

Oviedo,

Me too....Sorry I don't have any pictures...(my camera died)....For the most part the Bull bar held up quite well. It just has some slight bending and the dents along the bottom of the bar. As far as my bumber, it's really not that bad...Like I said It's just a crease ( I know it's there)...Another Bull bar probably would hide it for the most part, but again knowing it's there is killing me.

Thanks for the Karma too

See ya in March

Bill call one of those dent wizrd guys.. They might know what to do better than anyone else. I know there is a guy buy me that does paintless dent removal on cars. Dents up to the size of a fist can be removed by this guy ith something that looks like a suction cup and dry ice. I will see if I can get in touch with him through my dealership and ask for advise. Maybe the heat trick would work but just BE CAREFUL.. too much heat and you can cause further damage.

You can try a heat gun...but once creased..the cladding would be hard to bring back to normal......

Bonedog,

Luckly there is no body damage, just bumper damage...If you can imagine taking a bar 3" thick and whacking it as hard as you can against your bumper. It caused a crease about that wide, but only an inch deep.

I've heard you can heat the bumper back in place, so I'm just looking for verification.

Thanks,

YGMM,

Like what they use to remove old glue from floor tiles?....I know it's not supposed to get real hot or I could melt my bumper right?

Bill

Gobot,

I infer that you and your dad were not moving at the time. If so the "hitter's " insurance should definitely pay for the damage to both your and your dad's vehicles (including your Westin).

OK..I know what you talking about....Yeah, that might work....My bigest concern is how to go about it?

I don't mean to sound like a #%^&*%, but you got rear ended!!!!! Do they have insurance. REPLACE THE DAMN BUMPER. It's plastic, there is no way to get it back to the way it was.

Why do you not want to replace it? Seems crazy to me.

J,

That's the one hundred million dollar question.....Should I just replace it???...If I do replace it, does anyone know about what it costs?...You really have to see the bumper to understand.

As far as insurance....The person who hit me fled the sceen.

They fled the sceen...which means their liscence was probably suspended and didn't have insurance. I've talked to auto body shops in regards to new bumbers which are plastic. If the get hit there is usually nothing they can do! They usualy develop smal crack and over time the cracks grow larger. Now I'm not sure about the AV as the bumbers are different from most cars. They are not a shiny finish. I would replace the bumber. You have insurance and you pay for it, I think it's a good time to use it. I would think most Auto Body shops do free estimates, and you insurance Co. probably would do it too for free. I would replace the bumber, if it's that messed up, I dought it will ever be the same.

J

P.S...I take it you didn't get the plates of the person who hit you. Pisses you off doesn't it. Happend to my Girlfriend a year ago, but we got the plates. The other chick got arrested. Her liscence was suspended with a DUI, no insurance and her plates were expired. She got 8 tickets for all different reasons!!!!

Bill I checked my recipt fro when my front end got ripped off. The buber cover was 295 at the dealer in Sarasota. Might want to call Cox Chevy there and ask them personally. Did a great job and the dealership has an on premisis bodyshop and they do have a warehouse there so it might even be in stock for you.

J and Bonedog,

Thanks for the information regarding my bumper.....I'll go have an estimate this week and see about getting a new bumper. I was honestly hoping I could mold the crease back in place, but it seems that is just a dream....OH WELL

It's only money right???

Might be a good time to think about a LineOf Fire. From anecdotal evidence it seems to decrease the chances of getting rear ended, as well as looking great!

Yeah, I know...

I've actually thought about installing it....Could always use a little more mods and preventative measures.

sorry to hear about this :6:

I just got my replacement (warranty) LOF in the mail. Can't wait to get it back on the truck. Mostly for the "coolness" factor, though.
