Grab Handle Torx Bolt Size?

I am in the process of fabricating a rack system over the bed panels.  Figured I'd use the existing bolt holes from the rear grab handles as others here have.  I'm planning to mount a metal plate in place of the grab handles and need to find out the size of bolt that exists there.  I do have the proper torx bit for removal and  I know the hole is just under one quarter inch, and assume the bolt is metric.  Just going to replace these torx bolts with shorter stainless bolts, but need to know what size to get before playing the guessing game and buying out the hardware section of their stainless bolts~~~ :p
Thanks!

??? good question.  You might be able to take the bolt to the hardware store and have them measure it

take bolt to hardware section and try it in various metric nuts.... until you find size..

The bolts are M6x1 thread. They are long for a 6mm. Use stainless if you can.
Try MSC DIRECT (link) .
What length do you need ?

Ahh,  thanks for the info mpstech.  Stainless is definitely the plan.  1 and a half inch length bolt will do the trick since I'm fastening a quarter inch steel plate with washers directly into the recess area.
Thanks for the responses everyone (y)

I used 1/4 aluminum in my rack. I ended up removing the short bushings from the grab handles and used the factory bolts to mount my rack. It keeps it nice and level. Good luck.

Yep, I thought about using nylon spacers under the steel plate to level the mount, but I'm using the Yakima Qtower system with the round crossbar, mounted to their bolt top loader, which is welded to the steel plate.  The steel plate will be mounted directly to the flat of the recess area.  With the round cross bar a slight ~5-10% off level will be ok.
I did pick up the m6 bolts at Lowe's this wknd.  Yesterday I welded Yakima's bolt top loader (mount for Qtower) to the steel plate (x2).  Today the paint/ finish detail is well underway.  Pics to follow~~~

looking forward to seeing the pics...  Sounds really good..
