I have a Pioneer HU installed that has preamp outputs for the sub only. Connected 1 line output converter to the front speaker wires and tied the left front and rear together and right front and rear speakers together (++/--). Ran left side to Channel 1 of my Alpine amp. Ran right side to Channel 2. Channels 3 and 4 are bridged to an 8" subwoofer. The wires for rear speakers from the HU are stubbed and not used.

At low volume one side will start playing louder than the other. I turn the HU off and then restart and play music again and it's fine for awhile. At other times one side will play louder at higher volume levels and then correct itself. Sub is not a problem ( though I'm likely to add another 8")

I switched speaker leads at the amp and it switched over. That didn't tell me anything. I switched RCA plugs and the sound problems switched, so it seems the amp isn't the problembut rather in the wires LOC or HU.

I haven't hooked the speaker wires back to the HU only without going through the amp to see if if is a HU problem.

Anyone experience anything like this? What was your problem and how did you correct it?
