Alright, I finally worked everything out. We decided that because of the freakish weather we have been having, we are going to do the gtg on June 13th. This is not tentative, it is set. It will give us all a little more time to plan. Also, I have worked out a deal with my supplier to have a large amount of Avalanche specific parts at the store so you guys can check everything out, get a more hands-on feel for the parts you might be interested in. It will be from noon 'til you go home. Yes there will be food, and you don't have to get in or eat, just bring yourself and your ride. We will be taking pictures to post on our website. I hope to see you all there ;D

PS Check out Reflexxion's new steel hoods for the Av. Cowl and Ram Air, I have a special on them this month, if your interested email me.

Will mark my calendar. (y)

Which of your locations will be hosting the GTG?

We will have food and drinks for you guys too. It is BYOB, so if thats you thing, we have no problem with that. I will surely have some for me ;D See you all soon.

The address is as follows:

13460 Route 30
North Huntingdon PA 15642

If you want directions from the parkway (376) or the Turnpike, I have them for you.

I'll have to give this some serious thought...

How early will it start and how late will it run? I'm looking at just about 4 hours one way, and trying to figure out how I can make it work. If I come down the night before, anyone in the area interested in meeting for dinner on Saturday evening?

If I can make it, I'll be coming down I-79. What's the best way to get though Pittsburgh and to the event?

Shapeshifter,
Let me know where you are getting on 79 at, that way i can give you the best directions. I am planning on starting around noon, and you guys can stay as late as you want.

I'd be getting on at I-90, all the way at the North end.

SS,

After looking at the map you will probably take the turnpike East off of I79 to the Monroeville Exit #6 and then take 48 South to 30E to the location.

North Huntingdon is located South East of Downtown Pittsburgh.

Another option is to follow I79 to I279 S to I376 E to PA 48 S
to 30 E

I'm located about 35 miles West of Pittsburg off of Rt22. It is about a 75 minute drive for me to get there.

Guys, if you come down 48 you are gonna want to turn LEFT onto route 30 East. We are about 2 1/2 miles east of where 48 meets 30. If you get off at the Irwin interchange of the turnpike, you will have to go WEST on route 30 about 5-6 miles. I would say that getting off at Irwin would be the easiest. If anyone plans on coming from the Parkway (376), you will want to get off at the Forest Hills exit, and go East on route 30 about 9 miles. I tried to get the mapquest directions, but they kinda suck. They will get you in the right area, but not to my front door.

That's the route my GPS program plotted out for me, but I didn't like the look of driving through the heart of Pittsburgh. I don't know what the traffic might be like. Skirting the city on I-76 sounds like a better idea to me.

Once I told the mapping program to take I-76, the next thing it proposed is coming down 48. It looks to be just a little longer to go to Irwin, but if you say it is easier, that's good enough for me!

Thanks for the directions guys! (y)

Will anybody else be coming down I-79 from the North?

Going through downtown will not be bad on a Sunday morning. Weekday traffic is another story :8: :E: :8:

It is a little longer mile wise, but 48 is mostly 2 lane traffic. When I come from our Wexford store to my store here, I always take the Pike, 'cause its just one turn and fewer red lights.

That probably would be the best route for SS.
He is coming from the same direction.

Sounds like a nice outing for us. I could get into getting together Saturday evening for dinner.

Might be an opportunity for us to spend the night in the AV tent. :)

Will have to see if we can fit this in. I've got it on my calendar for now.

Still on the maybe list. :E:

There is a big deadline at work right about then, and it all depends on wheter we are ready in time or not. Unfortunately, it's not just me, but 5 other engineers involved. I'm pretty sure my stuff will be done, but until all of their work is done and we integrate everything, we wont know for sure wether it works right... :6:

According to today's status reports, it is unlikely we will be done by the weekend. I'm still trying to make this work, but if it does it will have to be a single day trip, so any Saturday evening dinner plans are off as far as I am concerned. :6:

If I can afford to take Sunday off, I will be leaving in the morning by 8:00, and driving about 4 hours to get there by noon. Then spend some time at the GTG, and 4 hours driving to get back Sunday night. I should just about be able to make it on a full tank of gas, unless there is going to be some cruising around the local area.

If I can make it, there is 99% probablity that I will be alone, with a 1% chance that my teenage son will be along for the ride.

There was some mention about food, I'm assuming this is at lunch time? Or will it be later and I should plan on stopping for lunch before I drop by?

Ok, my GPS just has route numbers, and I haven't really travelled much in PA since my college years, many moons ago... I assume "the Pike" is the Pennsylvania Turnpike, but I don't really remember much else about it. Is it I-76?

We talked about a couple of routes here, please confirm which one you guys will think is the best for a Sunday:
  • I-90 to I-79 to I-279 to I-579 to Boulevard of the Allies to I-376 to 30. (238 miles, 03:51:41 estimated driving time.)
  • I-90 to I-79 to I-76 to 48 to 30. (239.5 miles, 03:51:33 estimated driving time.)
  • Or something else completely different?
The first is where the GPS will tell me to go if I just tell it to go to the GTG location. The second one is the route it picks if I tell it to take me around Pittsburgh on I-76.

Any final advice?

Also, got an FRS channel picked out?

Shapeshifter,
I would definately suggest avoiding the city this weekend. Especially on Sunday. The Pittsburgh Arts Festival is going on this week. Wich will make a normally easy trip through the city, a nightmare. Yes the "pike" is I-76, I would recommend it over going through the city. i am working out the details as far as food and drink go. We WILL supply food and non-alcoholic beverages. The food will most likely be pizza and hoagies, and the drink will be reg and diet coke and/or pepsi. We have no problem with you guys bringing your own alcohol if you want (I know that I will). I am trying to get a grille to do hot dogs and burgers also. We are probobly gonna order/cook the food around 1-1:30, and I am sure that there will be some left over. Anymore questions or ideas for me post it or email me directly. I am lookin forward to Sunday. Talk to you guys later.

Thanks. So that settles it, my route is I-90 to I-79 to I-76 to 48 to 30.

The auto-calculated route tells me to get off I-79 at exit 78, merge with route 228, turn left on route 19, and then take the Cranberry Interchange to get on I-76. While all of that takes less than a mile, it sounds complicated. Is that really the way to cross from I-79 to I-76, or is there a better way?

Sounds like the perfect menu! (y)

OK, I'll skip the lunch stop and arrive hungry!

So it looks like the plans are set, I just hope the work situation lets me attend.
