OK I know that some of you do not like guns and all that stuff, but their are more than a few of us that do hunt. On my Silverado I put a gun rack on the back window, in the Tahoe I had it slung over the back seat. In the AV ? Any hunters, what do you think?

p.s. I understand the gun issues and this topic is about a GUN RACK. please

I wonder if you could use an underseat gunrack like the one from http://www.wildgoose.com ... I am going to check my truck ?;D

Maybe that one can work between the back seat and the midgate. Will check out the specs. If you get anymore info let me know. I will do the same.

MrBill,

Yes, we have hunters in the CAFC and the rest of the folks are nice enough to not say bad things about us.

I'm from Oregon and I hunt. In fact, I've hunted Africa numerious times, Canada and most of the Western states. I also write articles for several of the major hunting/firearms/handloading magazines.

Now to the problem: Gun rack. I checked your profile and you don't mention a sunroof on your 2500. I've seen a gun rack that mounts to the headliner of the truck, just aft of the visors. In use, the firearms are generally out of sight and instantly available.

My elk/whitetail guide in Alberta last year had one and it worked like a charm.

Don't know the manufacturer but I would expect Cabela's would probably carry it.

Behind the front seats would be possible with the right rig.

When you find the right one, please post it on the CAFC web site. We are all brothers (& sisters) here.

Don't you just love the 2500?

Does that constitue a concealed weapon?

Interesting site - only thing I could find was lots of these ads:

Am I missing something? :D

Gandolphxx,

You found the best part :)

It is a poorly laid out site. ?Not like the fine infobahn we have the priviledge to participate in here.

Under "Hunting Gear", select "Scope" and then in the center in the page you will find the underseat gun rack info. ?Makes sense to me. ?NOT.

goo929

ps - about the concealed weapons ... are you talking about the rifles or the girl

Thanks for the help. Oh by the way. If the guns are unloaded they can be transported anywhere in the vehicle. Sorry LI. Being a fellow NY maybe they due things differently in LI.

Goo929, thanks for the clarification - just couldn't get past "Daisy Mae" and trying figure out what she had to do with hunting.

I would think a headliner drop down would be neat. ;D

In New York you have to conceal and the firearm can be loaded. You are aloud to carry your firearm concealed and loaded as long as you are enroute to a range / hunting. Only in the 5 boroughs of New York City can you not have loaded gun on your person. Then it must be unloaded and locked in a box during transportation. This of course applies to handguns. I don't think anyone can easily conceal a rifle on their persons nor do I imagine it's legal.

;DHey Mr. Bill,
Don't fret about the gun thing. I have my NRA sticker, H&K trailer hitch cover, and a custom black bowtie with the red H&K emblem on it up front. I am rolling fodder for the leftists. No offense mean't to anyone.

I am an Endowment Member of the NRA (put my money where my mouth is). I had to order a Snugtop canopy so I'd have a place for my NRA decal. ;D

On the subject of the headliner gun rack. MrBill, the firearms are visable from outside the rig, but people don't commonly look up.

Bad guys probably would never see the rifles, yet the gun rack would be legal in states where firearms have to be in plain sight.

The thing I like about it is the rifles are available quickly and you don't have to risk dislocating your shoulder to get at them.

Steve

SteveTimm, I do have a sunroof so the headliner is out. I going to try and see if the underseat model will work. Will continue to look. Thanks for all the help and support. Yes I'am a member of the NRA, Disabled American Veterans and Vietnam Veterans.

Has anyone thought about mounting there gun rack in the bed area along one side. could take it out after hunting season and store it when not in use???. Could more less use old style gun rack would not have to be anything fancy. Just an idea. that is how i mounted my fishing rod holders on my last truck.

I've often thought that a fella could make a nifty rack by straddling the console. ?The guns would be butt down, trigger guard up, with the barrels passing between the bucket seats.

Wish I was a welder. ?The material wouldn't have to be very heavy and could be dipped in plastic after it was done.

I used to work in a large sporting goods store and San Angelo Welding made scads of gun racks for different applications.

I had a bench seat in a 94 Ford and I had a seat cover that had a built-in sleeve that held a rifle under your knees. ?That was a handy puppy, but you had to open the door in order to get into action.

Am I to infer that stopping the truck and opening the door was a hindrence to using the rifle? ;D

I also am a member of the NRA. They are having a dinner in May on Long Island that I am going to. I have my pistol permit and go shooting regularly. It's hard to beleive how tough the laws are in New York when they are so lenient in Conn. I guess the Peoples Republic of New Jersey has it's effect. The last dinner I went to they had a solid metal NRA hitch cover. I didn't buy it because i was afraid it would get stolen. I will be buying it this time around if they have it again. Maybe I will be seeing a few of you there.
Good luck with the gun rack. Mounted under the rear seats or in the cargo area sounds good. What about on the Cargo side of the Midgate. I imagine it would be easy to mount something on there. Plus with the midgate able to fold down, you would be able to access them from inside your truck. What are your thoughts!

Goo - I like the underseat rack. I don't see why it wouldn't work, and it's a good way to keep your gun out of sight. Gonna get me one!

It's a good thing I live in Texas, or I would be scared of you guys. (actually ya'll) Down here, everybody has a gun under their seat. ;D ;D

Come and see us sometime! ;D ;D

Helmet: We're not so scary and different here in Alberta. If you will permit me, you might say we are the "Texas" of Canada.
BTW, I only carry my shotguns in bird season.

Hey Chasman,

The gentleman I spent this last weekend camping with does an awful lot of hunting and fishing in your "neck of the woods"! So that makes sense. He is trying to get me up there later this fall... (it's going to cost me some jewelry if you know what I mean... ;D ;D ;D)

And by the way, ... I naturally will permit you to do anything you like if you are "packing heat"! ;D ;D

Any idea where to find the underseat gun rack as shown in goo929's post? Or, what it's called? I need one.

I've tried wildgoose - but no luck.

Thanks,

irish

The NRA is also here. I wanted NRA vanity plates but that was a little much.

As far as concealed weapon issues, all I can say is check you local laws first. Some state laws allow but the local municipalities can have their own issues with it. Rifles/shotguns are also classed differently than that of handguns or shortbarrel rifles (BATF rules).

I can fit a small hard case in under the seat from either of the rear door. It is not rapid access but it is nice to be able to hide it from sight if you are going to leave it unattended for a while.

As far as I'm concerned, (here it comes) everyone should carry, at least then the criminals will have a match.
