Handy And Cheap Accessory For Dogs

GUEST
Got a new Av on Saturday and on Sunday, I was figuring out how to accomodate my two dogs in the new truck. ?No matter how much room there is in the back, they have a tendency to want to get up front with the humans. ?The traditional rigid SUV dog barriers really don't lend themselves well to the Av. ?

I had got the idea to use a bit of cargo netting left over from an old SUV, but it was not quite big enough to be an effective barrier, so I took a cruise down to the Pep Boys to see what I could find.

I found a pretty unremarkable product, that has a remarkable application in the Av. ?Its a simple hammock style storage net that can be strung behind the front seats of the Av to deter dogs from wanting to climb up front. ?

Its made out of a shock cord type "frame" and has nylon netting. ?The manufacturer says its 45" to 60" x24". However,?I think it stretches well beyond the 24" on the verticle. Lengthwise, I think its about all you need for this application.

Its essentially 4 black shock cords with black 1" cargo netting over them. ?It can be connected on top near the headliner at the two passenger grab handles in the back seat. ?It connects at the bottom when the seats are folded down at the child seatbelt comfort guides on the outside of the seats. ?The bottom shock cord can also be connected on the 3 latches on the tops of the folded down seat backs to further deter the dogs from tunneling under!. ?I like to fold down the back seats and thow down a thick rubber backed rug so that the mutts don't slide around or get their paws hurt on the seat backs. This approach also works with the midgate down.

The netting also works with the seat back up, if you get a couple of small S-hooks and put them through the existing holes in the outboard base brackets on the back of the front seat!

Its remarkable how well this netting fits both ways without any modifications or adding any hooks! (Two fasteners are included with the netting if you are inclined. Only two because its intended by the manufacturer to be used as a "hammock".)

While I have not checked it yet, since this netting is desinged as a hammock, I think it would be great for a side of the bed too to secure small items.

It's quite compact when folded and can easily fit in the seat back's map pocket.

Anyway, I know I am going off, but I was just pleased to be able to get a simple solution to a significant problem for CHEAP ($16 at Pep Boys), and wanted to share with the boards here. ?

Hope others might be able to use something like this.

Welcome to the board and congrats on your new Av!

We have discussed this at length in thepast, but in a slightly different twist. Try to do a search on "Tailgate or Cargo Net" for the AV and you will find several threads devoted to this.

However, most of us purchased our tailgate nets through either a GM dealer or one of the supporting vendors here. You may be the first one to direct us to a national chain like Pep Boys (y)

Thanks for the link. These nets have a variety of applications---all the way to the back as a "cargo net" or all the way to the folded midgate as a dog barrier.
