Hey wheelers...I now own a 2 wheel drive Z71. LOL. Went out wheels deep in the woods of Louisiana today. Can you guess wht broke? Yep, the CV shaft. Passenger side. Just not strong enough for 300hp engine. Damn GM. Guess I gotta run a solid axle if i continue to wheel with like this.

Check out all the pics here: Meraux Muddin'

Anyone have a CV and axle laying around? Had to cut the old axle off with a cutting torch so i could drive it home.

"HOLD ON GUYS, I NEED TO REPLACE MY AMBER DRL!"

that kinda jumped out at me too. with that axle broke i am sure that amber bulb is the last thing on his mind right now.

hey mud, sorry to har about the mishap, seems like this is becoming a regular thing.... first vallyfirearms, then avalanche wolf, and now you..... :6:

good luck with your SFA conversion >:D

Well Mud, no one can say that you don't have fun with your AV  (y)

Terry

Mud,
I am sure this is a dumb question. But does anyone make a beefed up CV shaft? I seen the link for all the front stering components with heim joint and all. Just woundering if someone has built something to fix this problem too. ???

I believe there is a beefier setup, but doubt it is THAT much improvement. The best bet is solid axle... :6:

Grey,

this is a VERY common problem with all IFS. When i left my house I knew I would break something if i pushed it to hard. I called up one of the guys who took this a week earlier. He said I should be able to turn around if it got too thick. On the way in, the AV wouldn't get into 4lo. 4hi only. Made it fine, had to manuever a bit, but got through. Then at the end were we turned around, it finaly got into 4low. I was able to plow through with no problems, but therein lies my demise. Too much power for the CV shaft. Had i kept it in 4hi, i probably would have had to get pulled out a couple places, but I would have saved my 4x4.

the guy who lives close by where we went said he has a neighbor with a complete Z71 front end. He will see if he can get what i need from him. If that's the case, I'll have a replacement and a spare! But i can honestly say, I will keep this baby in the MUD and avoid any more terrain like that until I can either get a solid axle or purchase a beater to play with. (and still drive the AV to work Monday)

LOL...I am just happy it still works in 2wheel drive (knock on wood)

Oh and the DRL...lol, it's just loose connecters. If i jiggle them, they both come back on. I think I may have bent my running board though.

Mud!

Hate to hear about the damage.

You need to change your signature to: If at first you don't succeed.........Have spare parts avaliable. (y) ;D

One question for you Mud, did you crank the torsion bars too much after you installed the lift to get just a little bit more?
Do you think that it was too much angle for the cv , or horsepower >:D

LOL...single amber is due to faulty connectors. Just a little jiggle and they come on.

No bar turning...Kept the bars stock.

Mud!

>:D I Woulds Guess That He Has A DR Field and Brush Mower in the Back ?

If you knew anything about...."ANYTHING" you would know how cheaply the components are. yeah, I probably pushed it harder than should have been, but I'll be the one fixing it. I'm no yuppie computer IT geek that will have to pay and get his crap fixed...

pull wings off of flys just for fun...???? no comment. :-X

If the parts are so cheaply made then why are you the only one that's had this problem. Admit it... you had your head someplace the sun don't shine, and you busted you truck. What were you trying to play big man in front of your little buddies, and show off? I bet they had a good laugh at you on that one. I know I would have. >:D

I can fix my own truck but really choose not to... Why should I when I could have an overgrown ape like you get their hands dirty and go through the headache of making sure it's fixed right. Thanks but no... I'll drop it of to a monkey like you to spend the hours laboring over it, while this yuppie computer geek goes and plays a round of golf.

I'll bet you still get your jollies by burning ants with a magnafying glass while you're at it...

Only one with this problem??? In the great words of YGMN..."do a search" hmmph...
