I have no driver information centre on my steering wheel however is there a way to program the headlights to stay on after you exit the vehicle it does so now for about 10 seconds which appears to be the default however i wonder if there is a way to increase this time

Nope. It seems the General neglected to tell people that without the steering wheel controls you can't program the DIC. I have a feeling that Jason will soon have a booming business selling 2003 Avalanche steering wheels with the controls and harnesses...
