Help Me Decide - Avalanche or H2 SUT

I'm in the market for a new truck. My two choices are the Avalanche Z71 or the H2 SUT. The big differences between the two are: price, fuel economy, and bed size. The AV gets almost twice as many miles per gallon as the SUT and costs $20,000 less. The bed of the SUT is quite small - I probably couldn't fit much without having to drop the midgate. But, the SUT has some nice extras like traction control and air suspension.

Has anyone else looked into these same two vehicles?

Please help me decide.

Thanks

If it was up to me, as much as I love the Avalanche, I dont think I would pass up an opportunity to own a H2. Those things are just BAD A$$!

Have you driven both ? Go to a GM dealer and take an Avalanche home for the night, I think they still do that.

Sounds like the Av is 3-0 when compared to the SUT...

I would have to test drive the H2 before I could decide. It would be hard to beat the confort of the AV.

  :eek:go rent a hummer for a month,,then the macho feeling gets old,,then let your buns and back make the decision.abuelito

If I could afford the gas, tires - H2

and lets not forget the insurance

When deciding on a new vehicle, I tested the AV, the H2 and the Caddy XLT.

The H2 was awesome, but I needed the bed space for the motorcycles and I did NOT want to buy a trailer. My heart wanted the H2, but my head set me straight.

So, I narrowed the purchase between the AV and the Caddy. I liked the look of the Caddy, but it was hard to justify the difference in price between the two. The XLT just couldn't sell itself.

Sometimes I still wish I went with the XLT just for the monotone look....but I'm quite happy with the WBH AV after the current mods.

I think of the H2 as a second vehicle to a truck or AV, not a substitute.

Good luck with your quest.

If price and mileage are not issues, and you don't need much space in your payload, go with the H2 SUT. You'll stand out even more from the crowd.

HHmmm Save $20,000 for Mods later Av
Put 8x4's in the bed DRY. Av
Gas price going WAY UP!!! Honda (Sorry)
Fun to have 50/50
cool looking 50/50

It is a hard one Good luck.....

If you were talking about getting an H1 than I would go that route. The H2 is a nice street truck and for me I can't see the point of owning a truck that only stays on the streets. :cautious:

The H2 is too heavy for its parts to really handle off road stress. I have heard several simmilar stories about people who wanted to go play on the trails and ended up breaking their H2... like this guy.

You can camp in the back of the AV!

I would go with the Av.
1. Gas is not coming down in price until after the summer.
2. The Av is a much more versatile vehicle
3. The Av is a much more unique truck
4. The Hummer is a vehicle that draws a lot of environmental activists.
5. The Av fits into most garages, not so for the H2
6. The Av goes into parking ramps better than the H2
7. The Av rides better than the H2
8. The Av is better looking than the H2

Buy the Av, it's more versatile.

Take $10K, put on a 6" lift and a Magnusson, you can 4-wheel like the Hummer, run circles around it, and still have $10K left in your pocket for other things.

Ouch! That just hurts to watch :3:

I had the decision to make myself.... The AV made more sense both $$$ and size wise...
Gas in So Cal is $2.35 a gallon on a good day, and with the traffice, the H-2 SUT was just too damn big. :E:

I do love the H-2 but after taking both home for the night on the GM Test drive, I came to best decision for me :0: ... The Avalanche :B:

I am sure everyone on this site would say Avalance over a H2 I have never heard of anyone wishing they would have gotten a H2 now an EXT on the other hand

There are a lot of stories about military guys getting their HumVee's stuck in places that they could have easily gotten with a Jeep. Heck, during fuel system testing, I took a stock Jeep down trails a lot harder than that without breaking a sweat...

Avalanche is much more practical due to the bed size and is 20k less with rebates. If you want something flashy get a sunburst orange z71. Got mine 2 days ago and really like it. Now to save up for the mods.
