Hi, there.

I do not own an AV though I had planed to buy one, I did test drive and visited the website each day every day for almost a year. I like read all the stories posted here, not only my AV knowledge (yes I mean knowledge) benefits from the site but also my English. I can feel that all the members are very kind and friendly to each other. I want to join you and almost buy the ticket. But a few small things turn me a Toyota Tundra owner. Tundra people do not have a club like you lucky guys have, the only club (tundrasolution.com) relevant to Tundra is not free.

You may interest in what kind of small thing made me change my mind, just mention a few here.
1. Chevy quality: I bought a brand new Chevy Venture in 1999, now it has 20,000 miles only and has lots trouble (two rear breaker cylinders, heater fan, rattle noise, ect.) after passing warranty. Actually those troubles do not bother my very much, as I know this is mechanic and thing will broke.
2. The dealer service is something really bothering me. I usually go to the RH (initial) Chevy dealer at Roxboro St, Durham, NC to service my vehicle. I never get good service from them, for example, you can not change a broken trunk door handle after oil change service, you have to make another appointment and drive back again even that is a five min job. You order an engine coolant system flush (~$90.00), they will not clean the coolant tank for you even there are lots dirt and debris in it, because the coolant tank does not belong to the coolant system, they only clean it after you pay extra.

In general, Toyota dealerships are notoriously bad, but Toyota?s quality is very good at least. They are less devil so I switched to them.

I am kind of addicted to the site, I will check the site as often as I can and show respect to all AV on the road.

Good luck and find yourself a decent dealership,I know it's hard to do.

As far as Toyota goes my wife's on her 3rd,she likes them but to tell you the truth don't go thinking there quality is going to be that much greater.I'm surprised every time I drive her Highlander all the rattles it has in it already. The same goes for the one she had before.I guess it doesn't bother her,but if it was me no way would I put up with it. :B:

Don't worry we'll get you to trade in that Tundra in no time......for the Truck of your dreams the "AVALANCHE"! (y) .....Just kidding ;D
Goodluck ! Welcome to the Site.

Welcome to the club.

Let me share my opinion with you. I feel there are going to be bad apples in every bunch. I?m sure there?s folks out there that own Tundras and are having problems since day one. These things just happen. For example take a look at how many members belong to this site, and then look at how many of them have E-break problems. You?ll see that not everyone experiences the same thing.

I believe the US car industry has made great strides in the quality of workmanship of the product they produce. They have to keep up with the foreign market if they want to survive. I think the US still has the bad rap from the 80?s era of craftsmanship.

This site provides a wealth of knowledge that you cannot find anywhere else. I hope it will help sway you toward the AV?if not?good luck in whatever decision you make on your next purchase.

Stories of vehicles good and bad are all over, of course. I had a Toyota that had problems that were shrugged off and never fixed.

I had compared the Tundra's spec's (comparable as possible models). I'm not very impressed with them. The engine (V:cool: max size is smaller and the milage wasn't as good as an Av's 5.3, just to start..

Toyota quality isn't bad at all, but the majority here have a positive experience with their Avalanches and have a valid favorable bias!

Hi There "agouti " Thanks for the nice remarks on the site I like it too!

Finally the choice is yours but here is some info that you may want to consider. If you are really going to try to compare these 2 trucks it's a stretch because as much as the Avalanche is a very customized Pick up it does offer certain attributes that no other truck does it is the most versitile truck on the market It is now almost 4 years old and it has proven itself to be reliable.

Toyota over the past few years has been a leader in small to midsize cars, the Tercel and Corolla were pretty good cars although a bit over priced, but in the past few years they have made some dramatic changes in design and have tried to get a foot hold in the SUV market and Large Pick up truck Market. They do not come to the table with the same experience as the North American companies do like Gm and Ford and you may want to keep that in mind.

Best of Luck! :B:

The Av is the most beautful truck on the earth. The tundra is on another side of the spectrum. If i keep back here, I might trade in the tundra and get me into an AV. If I had found a good dealer, I definitely went for AV. Was scared by the bastard dealer. there is only one chevy dealer in the town.

This is a "fan" club, not an "owner's" club, so stay as long as you like.

I am also disappointed in the way some Chevy dealerships treat cusomers - whether past customers or potential customers.

Two months after I bought my Av I ran over a screw. I took it to the same dealer where I purchased it to have the tire plugged. Cost me $15.81 for them to plug the screw hole. I was hopeful that since I bought the Av there that they might do it as a courtesy, you know, good customer relations, but NO!

Don't let a bad dealership scare you off. There are others to choose from, even if you have to drive a ways to get there.

I buy from one dealership - I like the way they sell, but their service department could be better.

I get all my service at a different dealership, great service department, but I hate their sales tactics.

I have rambled on long enough.

Again, welcome to the best site on the web.
Hope you stay a while.

Welcome to the site. If you never get a AV thats cool.
As someone mentioned it is not an owner club just a
fan club.

I agree with what you said about dealerships. I
can't stand them either. The Dealer I bought my
AV from is one of the best that I've dealt with.
But the service dept is rather lacking. Remember
when you buy a new vehicle you don't have to
take your vehicle to the dealer you bought it
from but any dealership that sells that vehicle...

You really must consider the fact that not everything produced
from a specific label is made by that label at the same place.
The Silverado for example is made in one country while the
Av is made in Mexico. I've had much less troubles with the
AV than My fiance's 03 Silverado. The Avalanche seems
better made IMO than the Silverado. Also brands like to "license"
things from other carmakers. GM's Saturn Ion is doesn't have a
GM engine in it. Honda makes the engine. Also the Aveo which
kinda looks like one of those old ford festivas. They like to advertise
as being part of the "American revolution" in their advertising campaigns which is really funny since it is made by Kia In Korea!

One neat thing that has always lead me to buy chevy is that
(Excluding the examples above) you can find parts for them
more readily than imports. Now say I wanted to get a specific part
for my AV made by chevy I can call up either my dealer or go online
and find the item. Usually is is in stock and ready to ship. Let me tell you the woe of having an import sportscar. My future-brother-in-law has a really nice early 90's Nissan Z. When something breaks on it he goes thru hell. He had a problem with a specific part of the radiator assembly. It broke. He had to wait are you ready? Two months for it to be manufactered in Japan, and then sent to his door in rural GA! Two months for a pretty standard radiator part. And yes that meant that he couldn't drive his car for that length of time!! This has gotten much better I believe with Toyota and the others but you still have to be careful..

If you do get a Tundra thats cool. I just wanted to respond to some of the comments you made with my thoughts..

Aetatis.
