How Frequent to Drive New AV

I just bought a new AV a week and a half ago. Didn't absolutely had to have a new vehicle but the dealer offered me $11K off MSRP (with Rebates) and I couldn't pass it up.

I'm in the miltary and will move in a year. Consequently, my wife and I will primarily drive our other 2 vehicles to save miles on the Av until we move (at which point we will get rid of one of our older vehicles).

My question is how often should I drive the Av to keep it in good working condition (once a week)?

There seems to be a lot of experts on this board so I appreciate any inputs.

Thanks...Chris

For best results you should drive it at least once every 3 to five days and it should be driven at least 25 miles or so. This is not scientific input I am giving you only experience - you need to keep all the seals in good shape for the engine, trans, axles and Accessorys (such as P/S, AC and so on) Also you will need to get it up to normal operating temp to allow the engine to go into closed loop operation otherwise if you only start it and run it a few minutes every week or so you will develope fouled plugs from rich running condition and leaks from seal that stiffen from lack of lurication and movement.

It would be the best for the vehicle to continue to drive it as much as possible to keep it in the best shape for the long term - vehicles should be driven as close to the same way throughout their life as this helps them last and remain more trouble free.

Hope this helps - I am sure others will have opinions on this! (y) ;) :) :D

Welcome to the club, falconsooner! (y)

As I have another daily driver, I use my Av on a part-time basis. It's driven several days a week. Like TexAvFan said, it needs to be driven enough to keep the seals lubed and for the engine and tranny to get up to operating temp for a long enough time.

Welcome to the club! You never said where you were stationed at. In most all cases it is better to drive them that let them set. If you are in a very hot area thinge tend to dry out and crack if left in the direct sun. I bet after a while you can't stay out of it!

Welcome to club.....I work at home so sometimes I do not drive for 5-6 days.........and mine seems fine.........when I do drive it is extended drives over an hour.......

I suggest at least twice a month or maybe 3 times......

My kids Mark VIII sat for a couple months and the biggest problem was the plug wires dry rotted and shorted out, and him being a non-mechanically inclined person he drove that way for a month or so and ended up burning up the two $1200.00 cat. converters. :E: I average around 25000 miles per year so my AV doesn't sit much ;D

Thanks for the replies. For those that asked, I am stationed at Luke AFB in sunny Phx. The A/C on the AV works great!

I really don't want to drive anything else but my wife and I do a lot of driving as it is and I'm trying to keep it from depreciating any sooner than I have to.

Hey falconsooner,

Welcome to the club! It's good to see another happy Av owner in Phoenix.

BTW: Good luck NOT driving it! It's hard to hold back driving the Avalanche! ;)

If finding time to rotate it in with the rest of your fleet is difficult... I'm sure you can find a few volunteers on this site to help share the burden.

Congrats and welcome to modding heaven!
