How To Mount Head Unit?

Okay, I got a dumb one...

How the heck do I mount a head unit in an '02?

I've got one of those Pioneed din.5 units. (forget the P/N at the moment, but they're pretty popular here. Something like DEH-XXX or PEH-XXX)

I just pulled the dash apart expecting to see some screws... not this sliding tray system. I'm at a complete loss and quite frustrated.

At the moment, all I can locate are the brackets I used to mount the h/u in my old truck. A '00 S10. It's definitely a 'no-go' with the Av.

Thanks,

Yeah, like the_dude said, you need a kit. It will turn your new radio into having that tray sliding set up like the factory. It makes for an easy install. The only bad thing is it also makes for an easy steal. Might want to get a car alarm while your out.

Chevy radios are easy as hell to steal. The only thing you can do to make it harder is attatch a metal strap to the back, but due to the simplicity of the dash, a theif can remove that and unscrew the strap.

Thanks for being kind to a novice audiophile here. I appreciate it. :)

Yeah, I've been thinking about the 'stealability' of the h/u setup. I was really shocked to find that I could pull off the dash facia without any tools... and then remove the h/u also. I was also thinking of attatching a strap out back...

When I first got the stock h/u in my hands, I thought I was supposed to remove the bottom tray looking piece of hardware... but when I exposed the circuitry of the radio, I knew that wasn't correct.

I wasn't sure if you guys were removing the black sliding sections and bolting them up to your head units ala some custom work. I know I could do it that way, but seeing as I didn't see any mention of it on here, I knew there was 'something' I was missing.

Anyone remember how much they paid for a installation kit? I'm on a bit of a limited budget 'til Friday. Just sprung for some components and co-ax's. (y)
