Ok folks, the 5am update is in. It looks like it's going to be VERY bad on the West Coast of Florida.

I thought we needed a central location for members to check in and tell us either they are ok, or need help.

Here in Cape Coral they are calling for 10-13' surge with winds over 100mph. Should hit sometime midday.

Good Luck all - please check in and let us know you're ok!

My son and his family live in Sarasota.

They have already left early this AM headed East then down the other coast for Ft. Lauderdale.

We will be keeping a close eye on the situation.
Wish all a safe encounter with Charley.

It's about 9am.. rained most of the night here, quit raining about 7 and started sprinkling about 830 -
News coverage is 100% Charley right now.

They keep saying this is the beginning of what promises to be a very rough day weatherwise... oh well - it's Friday the 13th!!!

Yea, you West coast guys, try to check in tommorrow and let us know how it went. (y)

Huge Storms make living in areas near sea level scarey at times like this. I'm +9'.

Does anyone know +' sea levels in the communities where Joe, Ken, Doug, David and our west coast Florida friends live?

Northeastern winds cause storm surge damage in my area.

Tinman, looks like you got hit pretty hard with rain yesterday from Bonnie :( I would think Joe, and anyone else on the West Coast side is not very far above sea level. It's Florida, and there are not many high areas. I just hope none of them are on the coast, that would be bad. We are still leaving our house, due to flooding and falling tree issues.

It depends on where they live - for example, my house is 11ft above sea level - the guy across the street is about 7" above sea level....

If I get a chance, and have power and internet access, I'll post digital pics later (if i'm not busy pulling a palm tree out of my A**)

Good Luck to all of the Florida Members and their families. Ihope that everything turns out O.K.

We live in charlotte county our house is about 15 ft above sea level. The good thing is my windows are boarded up. The other news my house was constructed in 74 by a company from miami. They built it by using poured concrete reinforced steel walls that runs both ways. Not only are the outside walls concrete the inside walls as well and the roof is a 5 inch slab of concrete. The bad thing is My Av has to wait the storm out, outside. We have not even made the first payment yet. :C: We hope everthing goes well for all in the area. SWFLA1 you guys be careful down there. Take care Brad :2:

Brad -

Good luck to you too.... hope the AV makes it without any damage....

Be sure to check in after the storm so we know you're ok...

Brad, take that "Sunburst" out and fire it up. Maybe it'll scare Charley away.

Good luck.

Also, your fellow SOM brothers are with you.

I heard that as well, they are supposed to shut down the business district only.

Keep safe and God Bless.

This will all blow over soon and things can start to get back to normal - at least to Florida normal ;)

If you do get any photos (during or after) - please post them.

Good luck everyone. From what I read on MSN it's going to be a pretty bad day down in FLorida. The ones that come from the gulf are always the worst, so much more warm water to suck up. THis is why I hat hurricanes, you can see him coming and there is nothing you can do but wait it out.

Best of luck.

I don't know about the others, but I'm in a relatively good place. I'm 5 miles east of the Interstate, and with code, I had to build WAY the heck up in the air. I"m near the dam that almost overflowed last year and near a river that's an A evacuation zone, but I'm a D zone ;)

Probably 20' or better above sea level for the house. I figure that a storm surge would need to reach Arcadia to enter my house.

Prayers are with all my AV brothers and sisters. Please chime in after it passes and let us all know your safe.

We shouldn't have to much damage here in Jacksonville even though the projected path is right in my back yard. Sustained winds should at best only be about 75 mph.

Be safe,

Hangman

Hangman, I am more worried about the tornado factory than anything else. That was a good one you guys had in Jax. yesterday that Bonnie spun off.

Hope everyone's OK down in Florida. Let us all know how things are going. And if all is well afterwards. We'll all be thinking about ya!! ;) (y)

Pete

So far so good. My house is near the Gulf in "A Zone" but I'm camping at my sisters for the day and she's a "C" so if my house gets blown away, which it probably will, my family is all here and everything is cool. I hope.

Yeah, I brought the guns with me. ;)
