Have you all been seeing these ads for Pontiac cars and Chevy cars/trucks that only apply to eligible GM employees and their family members? They do offer a great deal, but what percentage of the people could qualify for such an offer? My guess would be like 1 percent.

Why have ads that only a small group of people qualify for? Just to show a great price? I don't think people are fooled. GM has some stupid commercials out there.

In the area of the country I live in there are a lot of GM employees and retirees. It depends on where you are as to how relevant those discounts are.

Yeah, yours is the only place that I could understand this type of advertising. But even where you are at, what percentage of people are GM employees and family members? 10 percent? I can't think it would be much higher than that.

After they expanded it and made inlaws elligible it went to an even higher percentage. probably 50% of the people I know are closely enough related to get the discount and I dont even work in the auto industry.
They also have a supplier program that is close to the same discount as employees if you are in management.
I agree though that in a lot of the country its irrelevant since GM doesnt have plants nearby.

Some areas have very high percentages of eligible buyers. Family members that can use this discount include: employees, retirees spouses, surviving spouses, children, grandchildren, parents,
stepparents, siblings (including full, half and step) stepchildren
stepgrandchildren, mother-and fathers-in-law,sons-and daughters-in-law, brother-and sister-in-law. Also a lot of the factories that supply parts to GM get the same discount. I know I used to work for GM before I retired. That factory is now not a part of GM and the workers still get the employee discounts. If there is GM factory in your area I would bet that there is a high percentage of buyers that would qualify for that discount.

The one that really annoys me is the Cadillac driving at high speed through thick fog! :7:

Is this like a serous discount that any quilfiers gets? or just a few hundred?

Its several thousand. It is between 9% and 18% depending on the model.

I'm sure the market is bigger than you'd expect. I'm sure there are alot of people not aware the discount extends to family members.

I think the new GM and particularly the Cadillac ads are snazzy. General Motors is generous with the supplier discounts and pretty much all employees of most commercial concerns that touch anything having to do with a GM product can get it. My '03 Av stickered at $42.9 and I got it for $36 including the GM loyalty rebate of $1,000. I traded in a '99 Corvette Coupe so didn't do much more than trade titles with the dealer.
