I Need A Quick Light Re-cap Please

GUEST
Once again I'm cross eyed trying to filter through all the light suggestions here. Would appreciate a consensus on the proper replacement bulbs for all the lights. Replaced my headlights yesterday but turning on the brights or the fogs ruins the affect so it appears I need to get em all done. Thanks for suggestions.

I went to e/bay and did a search there...Went with 9005 and 9006 (low and highbeams) Zenon blue Also did the Fogs...50 watt Zenons...Did the DRL'S in blue also.. Nice effect

I went with the following:

Sylvania Silverstars:
9005 High/9006 Low

Sylvania Amber DRLs:
4157NALL (LL=Long Lasting)

Sylvania Fog Lights:
899 (38 watts)

Not sure about the rear lights.

Add a Line of Fire in the rear and your there - of course you could go HID. >:D

Don't I wish. It might be too bright for my neighborhood. Out in these two lane country type roads someone might mistake my AV for an alien ship. ;D

No biggie...you make your way on to the TV set in all our living rooms.....No need to get nervous unless you get surounded by several camo'ed Hummer's....

:2:Hey Gandolph, You are the only one i know of with the line of fire lights for the rear. They are LED right? Is there a way to replace any if they go out?
I am thinking about seriously getting that add on. I saw it in one of my magazines yesterday for i think around 89.00 is that about right?
When you tow do you have to unplug them so you can plug in you trailer lights or do you have them wired differently?
Full of questions tonight
Thanks G-MAN

Zeeya, actually I am not the only one here with the LOF. I posted reviews on gm-trucks and here, and their backlog went to 6 weeks - crazy - a colleague of mine just bought a Dodge truck and got one this week.

Check with Jason, I think he is repping them now.

You can just plug them into the 7 pin trailer receptacle, or hard wire them into the harness. I never even considered the towing issue, since I don't tow. ;D

I would recommend the same thing RoarinRow said.
I also have:
Sylvania Silverstars:
9005 High/9006 Low

Sylvania Amber DRLs:
4157NALL (LL=Long Lasting)

Sylvania Fog Lights:
899 (38 watts)

SilverStars will set you back around $100 for all four. They are a really great upgrade and a very noticeable improvement.

Can anyone clear up the difference between the 9005 and the 9011? The AV lists that it takes the 9011 as a high beam lamp. Sylvania does not make a SilverStar 9011, just the 9005. From what limited info I can find, it seems that the 9011 is an updated version of the 9005 but it is not the same. It seems to have a brighter Lumen output rating than the 9005. I guess my point is...are the 9005 SilverStars much improvement over the stock 9011? I bet it is an improvement over a stock 9005. I've done the SilverStar 9006 and like them a lot. Got the 4157NALL ambers, and will be picking up my 899 this weekend. The uncertainty of the 9005/9011 (with some mention here in the forum about the fit) has made me a bit hesitant. Thanks.

In earlier conversations regarding bulbs (can't find that thread), it was discussed that the 9011 is a superseded 9005. The 9011 is just the new part number that replaces 9005. They both have the same specs otherwise. They are both 65W hi-beam bulbs.

I Would Highly Recommend The Following Upgrades;

I Have Installed:

PIAA Xtreme White Plus 9006 -- For The Low Beams
P/N:19616 -- About $70.00 For A Pair
51W=115W 4000K

PIAA Xtreme White Plus 9005 -- For The High Beams
P/N:19615 -- About Another $70.00 For A Pair
60W=120W 4000K

Sylvania Amber DRLs:
P/N:4157NA - About A Buck Or Less

Sylvania Fog Lights:
P/N:885 50 Watt - Very Noticeable Improvement

(4) Explorer Pro-Comp - 6"x9" Long Range Driving Lights
P/N:EXP9001 -- About $32.00 Each
100 Watt Each-- Mounted On My Custom Light Bar.

Thanks Jamie. I just thought I read somewhere that the 9011 is the same size and wattage as the 9005 but I read the Lumen rating was higher indicating a brighter bulb. Perhaps something in the filements (sp?) used. It seemed that it was not only a replacement for the 9005, but an enhancement as well. Thanks again.

Guest, SilverStars all the way. I have read about the Xenons and not sure how "real" they are. I have seen both negative and positive comments on them.

I guess the best rule of thumb regarding lighting is if it only cost $15 or less per lamp, you aren't really getting the good stuff. SilverStars were the most expensive replacement bulbs at the parts store (Checker I believe). PIAAs are also a good choice but a bit more $$. SilverStars will be around $50/pair and are usually sold individually. PIAAs can be gotten online for $70/pair. Not cost difference between hi/low beams.

Just stay clear of the fake blue Halogen/Xenon bulbs. The just look bad and actually will cast a duller light as they are just painted glass.

since like BlackZ71 I have changed nearly every bulb on the Av, let me recap my lighting choices for any who care:

Headlights: Silvania SilverStars highs (9006) and lows (9005). Best non-HID spectrum, in my view. Also, since the Av is set up oem to have the lows go off when the highs come on, get a $15 headlight controller to force the lows to stay on with the highs, cheapest wattage upgrade I know of for high beam situations.

Foglights: Silvania 885 (50 watts) - Their 899 bulb (38 watts) is also an upgrade from stock.

DRLs: Had Blue bulbs from Wagner, but the blue burned down to a green coating within two weeks' time. Now sporting amber drls from Silvania, rough service 4157NALL. Still want blues again though, blue av.

Back up lights - Easy swap to 50 watt bulbs, JCW has em.

Other Auxiliary lighting: Hella Black Magic lights up front, with 100 watt H-2 bulbs swapped in. KC 55 watt flood lights facing rearward, located just under the edge of the rear roof line.

Thinking about blue tint puddle lamps . . . . :)

Hey Kronk,

If you already have the SilverStar 9006's then I'd still go with the 9005's just to keep consistent with the 4k light colors. The stock 9011 will probably have a lower color count than the 9005.

It may not make a difference since you may not use your high beams as much. Just my .02.

I bought the 9005 and 9006 Silverstars for my Avy, but noticed the highs had 9011 for the part number. Any body know the difference between the 9011 and 9005 for the highs? I put the 9005s in, but noticed they don't fit as tight and the original 9011s. I put electrical tape over the back of them to be sure they don't rotate out. Their too expensive to have them fall out and break. I also bought 885s to replace my fogs, but was wondering if they are going to be too hot and distort the clear lens over the fog lights. I figured 885s would be a little brighter than the 899s and would sure like to use them. I need all the light I can get. Every morning on my way to work I travel the back roads where there is a lot of deer activity. Don't want to hit one with my Avy. Bought a headlight and fog controller from R&D Truck Accessories so I can have my lows, hights, and fogs on to look out for deer. Call me paranoid, but I've been in two encounters with deer. It's no fun.

Thanks Jamie, I was just wondering since with the 885s, your almost doubling the wattage output from stock.

One more question on lights. Have been several referrals to a headlight controller to keep briight and dim on at same tiime....Is there a website that this controller can be ordered from. Thx.

Thx. for site....contacted,,,,,,ordered,,,,,,on the way...
Thx. again...

I strongly endorse/recommend this configuration. Bang for the buck you can't beat the Silverstars - the amber DRL's look AWESOME and the 38 watt upgrade on the fogs is great and won't damage your lenses.
