I have been searching the forums & internet for hours to try and figure out how to properly wiring up my Westin Driving Lights. I received my lights without any instruction. I first wired up the lights without a relay and for some reason (improper gauge wire or whatever else) my wiring went up in FLAMES! :7: So I'm trying to re-wire it with a relay. I have tried many different setups from other instructions throughout the web, but no luck. If I tap a straight 12v to the lights without a relay it works. Anyone got a solution?

I bought a set of off road lights and had the same problem with the wire burning up. Then I tried running the lights straight to the battery and blew the inline fuse. I had to take the light apart and found the power wire inside 1 of the lights grounding itself to the light, a quick little bend and they worked fine. If that doesnt work you may want to take those lights back and get a new set.

Well I cannot get the lights to work at all with a relay. The fire happened last time when didn't use a relay and just straight wired it. You got any suggestions on how to get the lights to work with the relay. It would be so much easier if I had the Westin instructions or if they were at least posted online somewhere.

I'm guessing you have a simple black and red wire coming off the lights, I mounted mine on my brush gaurd. I drilled a hole for each light in the gaurd to ground the lights to. I used a three pronged relay switch. I used 12 guage wire and ran my 12v+ to the switch. I ran the ground wire for the switch to a bolt behind the plastic by the emergency break. I ran the final 12 guage wire back to the lights with a 15 amp inline fuse.

where did you get the lights?  maybe contact the seller to see if they can hook you up with the instructions.

Does this help?
it is also good to note that the wire from the battery to the 30 and from 87 to the load be large enough to handle hte amprage of the load (the lights in this case, add them together if there is more than one) Also, there should be a fuse installed, ideally close to the battery (to protect the wire too).

Very good advice I should have said that.. Thats the main reason to use a relay

after reading your PCM thread, did that start the same time you started dealing with these lights?  Possibly related to the issue?  Just a thought
