Installing smooth EXT parts on 08 avalanche(Finished w/pics!)

Thanks,I appreciate it...   yeah they are but the lens is red. My taillights and third brake light had the chrome housing with the smoked lens and looked really good together. But, due to everything fitting and aligning it was all or nothing. So the escalade light was in and the avy light out.

I thought of something does the junk yard have the escalade tailgate. >:D

Maybe the will swap with you.

Yeah they do, but it doesn't have the back up camera or the auto locking tailgate like I have now, and i'm not sure if I'm adventurous enough to try and swap all that, but good thought though...

The third brake light might be getting traded to get the trim piece painted, not sure yet. I should have a few different things to get rid of once all is said and done.

That's different I thought that would have come stock on a escalade

well my swap to smooth ext parts and then some is over!  :D

all in all everything went well and i'm more than happy with the outcome. I really like the look and kept everything well under my budget...

mods done included ext roof rack, swapping all cladding over to ext cladding including 3rd brake light, smoked the ext 3rd brake light, chrome ext tailgate handle, removed flexfuel emblem and replaced with LTZ emblem, and while I was at it I went ahead and replaced all interior/exterior accent lighting with cool white LEDs and replaced the lows/highs/fogs with 10k HIDs.

Very nice bro... (y)  Love the color too...  That Tri-Coat White is a gorgeous color out in the sun...  It's a Female Dog to match though...  LOL

Definitely like the cool white LED swap for the license plate and interior. Can you let me know what the part numbers are for those LED's?

Wow! Nice job on your AV and the LEDs are a nice touch.

Thanks everbody...

yeah, luckily all I had to worry about having to get matched up was the trim piece across the tailgate. They actually did a real good job, although i'm sure they were cursing and swearing the majority of the time!

The Interior LEDs were a 4410-x9led bulb, i think there were 5 total inside. The outside LEDs I used a WLED-x6 which is the 194 peanut style led with 6 straight facing leds. I did the one in the bed as well although I didn't get pictures, I think it was a 921-x9 led.

The fog light HIDs were ordered from DDM. I got the 35w H16/5202 kit. I know people have had problems with them so i'm keeping a close eye on them to see how they hold up. only thing i didn't like on the fogs were that they were not plug&play, but oh well, they're in...

So, how are the fog lights holding up? I've been wanting to pull the trigger on some HID fogs for a while, but were afraid they may melt the housing. I guess I'd be looking to get the 35w H16/5202 in 8k since my low beams are 8k. Did the kit come with everything needed to hook up the fogs or did you have to order the dual in, dual out harness?

So I got the new clips in the mail this weekend and got everything put on. I've gotten a few good comments so far, some from people who usually criticize me and my avalanche obsession. I still really hate that I had to lose my LED 3rd brake light, but all in all I think everything went well. Now the next step is to get the top tailgate trim piece smoothed and painted next week...

********

After all was said and done, I figured if I could do all that then there was no reason to let the headlights beat me. So i took a second attempt from a couple months ago at the ambers and successfully got my silverstar ambers put in my drl's and turn signals...
GR1M -  I'm  Impressed with the the MODS  LOOKS SHAPRE!!!!  I am looking to do the same to my 2010.  Do you mind saying how much it all cost .  I read that you had the one piece smoothed, was it by an AB Shop SILLY ??.  I love the EXT 3rd brake light and would like to have that installed and just have the rest of the parts on my AV smoothed and painted, is it cheaper or get the EXT Parts then have them paint matched?  Also was the roof racks installed without any drilling?  Did you have an AB shop put that on?

Can't see pics

Sorry about the pics, not sure why the website that was hosting changed everything, but I think i got em all put back up.

I also hadn't seen some of these post, i know theyre old but i'll respond anyways...

hoffa09 - It's been awhile since all of it was done, but i wanna say all together it was about $400(give or take) if i can remember right. I ended up not smoothing the existing piece smoothed cause it was broke, so I just ordered a new one from an escalade already smoothed. Having the ext 3rd brake light installed with the avy cladding causes misalignment issues, I don't have pics but I know there are some on here. Best best is all or nothing. The cheaper option depends on resources and what you can find as far as parts. And yes the roof rack was installed without drilling the truck, however the base of the actual roof rack had to be drilled and even then its not a perfect fit.

old skool - Not sure which route you went, but my hids have been in the fogs about 2 years now and yes they DID melt the housing. The kit came with everything needed but I did have to splice the wiring on the fogs. I would highly recommend 25w kits for anybody doing the fogs if you can find em.

Sorry again about the pics, pm me if there's anything I can do to help anybody or answer any questions (y)

I installed 25w 8k HID fogs and they also scorched the housings from the heat...also has hair line cracks. That was after about 45 mins of continuously having them on.

Your rig looks fantastic sir!  (y)

I do think you need to sand and paint the bed panels to match. You won't regret it.

I haven't got a chance yet to get a pic of them on the avy as i've been busy this week trying to get the blackwood interior done, but hopefully can get it outside by the end of the weekdend and get some pictures of everything put back together. But I love it, between the bed panels and the piece under the front bumper it really fills the truck out and looks good.

Wow they came out nice. (y)
