i was insulted today by a co-worker who bought a new Dakota. he thought my AV had too small of a wheel/tire combo on it for it's size. "did not look right", he said. he was not to impressed with the AV. considering he did not get a CD player, power windows/locks. and large displacment engine. and he got a plastic bedliner instead of a spray-in. who get's a drop-in bedliner now a days? he was very proud of his 6,000 lbs of towing capacity as well. ;D ;D ;D
i do not care if he would have gotten everything under the sun. it is still a Dodge. it still sucks. i may have to change my animation to pi$$ on Dodge now! :8:
BTW the interior was really cheesey on his truck as well. considering the mods in my interior he can't even begin to compare the two. he did try though!

:B: :B:

Just tell him to check his warranty book at the 5000 mi. service....." Owner to procure two (2) earplugs to eliminate failing transmission whine........" >:D

>:D Jake >:D

now that is funny! ;D sad part is he may actually need the earplugs. the nerve of this guy!
notice i am now pi$$ing on Dodge instead of Ford. i saw that there is a Dakota animation, but opted to just pi$$ on the whole manufacturer! >:D >:D

I would rather have a truck too large for the given tires than a truck too small for its tires.

Is much easier to change tire size than truck size. :p

A Dakota (although good looking for a Dodge) is not even in the same league. The ones who have nothing good to say are usually the ones who are jealous. No, I am not jealous of the Dakota - they are OK.

Don't let it bother you.

GoldBowTie you made a good point. i won't let it bother me anymore. i know i made the right decision. he will just have to live with his. :B:

Some people just don't know what the hell they are talking about ! I must say, we've never gotten an ill comment on the Av, family, friends, and people who see the black beast love it, especially those at school when I drive it ;)...

Actually, I don remember one less than positive comment. We were down in Rehoboth, crusing around the boardwalk, and were waiting at a light. At the same time, an older couple in their mid sixties was standing, waiting to cross the street, and when we turned in front of them, she pointed and said "Now, that's nice, especially the gray on the bottom!", but her husband smooshed up his face, and said "Ooh, I don't think so." All the while my window was down half way and I heard it all.

Some love, some hate, but some are also quite stupid, and can't appreciate! (Boy, that was a beautiful rhyme!)

I looked at the Dakota's when I was looking for what to get. The truck just fell short in all aspects. Don't even get me started on Dodge "quality" :D:

I would not sweat this cheesey comment from the Dodge owner. I would say it is more of class envy.
Now if it were a GMC Denali or something on the same scale- well, your on your own.
This cat sounds like he has buyers remorse being that he needs to find fault/or whittle away at some ese to bring his decision to buy back in line with his purchase-

My .02 cents worth-
BTW, I would drop my AV in a second IF i could get a new 2003 Denali Extended cab w/ a wheel quadra steer?
Just my feeling as even though I LOVE  my AV- I just think a Denali in the garage would be heaven!

He tried to compare a little bitty Dakota to an AV? :cautious: What kind of medication is this person on? About the only thing exciting Dodge trucks have would be the Hemi engine :) and that doesn't come in the cracker jack surprise Dakota. ;D

TP :)

A co-worker took me out to lunch in his Dakota and I was really dissappointed :6:in the ride. I guess Dodge still thinks "rides like a truck" is a popular thing. I'll take my AV ride any day.

Truckman :B:

His Dakota doesn't even compare :D:.

We have neighbors with a brand new Dakota crew cab and although they haven't said anything, I'm sure they don't like our AV. They wave to us without even caring to look at us >:D.

What I get a kick out of is every time I hear their Dakota on a cold start, it usually takes 1 long try or two or three long attempts for that matter to get it started >:D >:D. Meanwhile, the AV fires right up with the same short starter every morning ;D ;D.

If someone's vehicle doesn't even compare with the AV and somebody dings it with a nasty comment, I sense a hint of jealousy :D.

It really is amazing the impression the Av' leaves with people.

My best friend is a DIE HARD Ford man, has always had Ford trucks and cars. The only thing GM he ever gets close to is the race cars that he races and I crew.

I took he and his wife to dinner the other night and as we were coming home he reached over and clicked on the heater in his seat, played with the power recline and inflatable bolsters.

A second later he turned to his wife in the back and told her that her next Taurus would be an Avalanche.

He drove it the next day and he is still just amazed by how smooth it rides, how quiet it is inside and the acceleration the 5.3 has.

He's not much of a computer guru but when they get their Av I'm sure his wife will be one of our newbies. :)

Well he will be buying a new truck before long. >:D

One of my brothers-in-law had a Dakota (he does industrial roofing). It lasted about 6 months before he had serious problems with the drive train (new tranny, new diff) - and the funny thing is he was only using it for commuting and some light hauling. He traded it for a full size Ram... that one lasted I think about 2 years before the transmission had to be replaced. He bought one of the new style Rams this year - glutton for punishment I guess. >:D

Another brother-in-law builds houses. Just got a new Silverado 2500HD because his '88 Chevy finally succumbed to a combination of terminal body rot (a problem in NH) and hitting a deer! He was ticked because he had had no major problems with the old truck, just the normal wear items for a truck with 230,000 miles on it... :D

Sounds like yet another case of AV Envy. He just has to prop up his dodge so that he doesn't feel too bad about not getting the AV (which deep down he really wanted).

My wife and I looked at the dodge a couple years ago (it was before the AV was availible). Even went so far as to take it out for a test drive. I think that it is a nice little truck. I suppose I would buy it long before I bought a baja!

He did have a point about the tires being too small though. I think they should be at least 275/70-R17s. I am pushing for the 285/70-R17s personally. I have been around too many jeeps and like the look, ride, and clearance of larger tire/wheel combos.

Dodge....please...tranny my man...just think tranny....that should dappen his spirits... :B:

Does the Dakota have a fan club? I think not. Don't listen to what they say, watch what they do. :B:

Next time ya'll are planning to go somewhere ask him "Did you want to go in your Dakota...........or just put it in the back of my AV and me drive?"

>:D

Oh sands611 now you are talking! My dad just brought over a 2003 GMC Denali..........that truck is SSSWEEET! Especially that quadrasteer..........We got tonnes of snow last night, up here in Canada......I was rippin around with it in the snow, it performed amazing. The 6.0 is silky smooth just like the Avalanche but has more power you can feel. Dont talk about the looks... this is one nice truck! Dont get me wrong though I still love my Avy! About that Dodge owner, he is just a big laugh!

Peace :B:

I traded in my 2001 Dakota for my 2002 Av. Never had a regret, and I'm sure I never will. The 1.5 years I owned the Dakota was the shortest ownership of my life for many good reasons. Here are two:

Reason #1: Never had to threaten a manufacturer with legal aciton before to get something done.

Reason #2: Total piece of crap automatic transmission. (Also see reason #1.)

Own a Dakota? Just wait.... >:D

i hate to admit i saw a Dakota R/T awhile back that had caught my eye. it had Mopar high performance parts all over it...headers, valve covers, exhaust. just to name a few things. i went over to the dealer to check it out. he took me out for a drive in the truck. we went back to the dealership. then he wanted to do paperwork when we returned. there is something missing isn't? he did not let me drive! :8: how the heck do you buy something you can not drive? he said it was a consignment/high performance vehicle they could not let people drive.
a good mechanic friend of mine told me about Dodge tranny's without mods. he thought it was a bad idea to get one with all those mod's. the tranny would get trashed for sure. he told me he would bet his life on it. :B:

Let me tell you What, I purchased a 2000 Dodge Dakota when I was 19 y/o. It was trimmed out You know V8, Infinity Kappa Sound System, 16" Wheels, Solar Yellow Rare Color, etc, etc, etc.

It ran like a top, had power to spare, but within a year, I had the crankshaft position sensor replaced :7:, transmission slipped when going from drive to reverse with 2 years and when it was cold out it didn't want to run in the morning, :8: then right before I traded it in the seat started to fall apart. The drivers side was losing its padding. It was unreal.

The best part of that Truck was when I traded it in on my 02 Avalanche. ;D

My experience....well not a dakota...but a ram.....my fathers....all I have to say is mystery leakage, ball bearings dropping like flies, shakes, rattles, and rolls....purchased in 98 brand new....regrets to this day leaving the bowtie...for a dodge......he'll be back... ;D :B:
