Is it safe to run AVY through Car Washes

Is it safe to run the Avalanche through the automatic car wash? How wet does the cargo area get? How clean does the carwash get this vehicle with the recessed window?

I ran mine through the $5 wash at Chevron....didn't seem to hurt it.

Just remember to remove your antenna, and position yourself in the center, too left or too right and the brushes are too close to the sides of the truck.

Mine was dirty enough to need 2 washes though...

>:D

Welcome to the club. (y)

I take my Av through at least every two weeks to remove the road salt. I can't wait til it warms up for a good hand wash.

I have never had any leaking issues with mine, even at the car wash. No, they don't get a good shot at the back window. I just take it inside when I get home and clean it myself. :B:

I've gone through several times myself. I haven't removed the antenna yet.....

Sometimes they'll fold my mirrors in, sometimes they won't.

I take mine through the "touchless" car washes all the time and never have leaks. Its the only way to wash when its cold outside!!! >:D >:D

any problems with the onstar nub going through the power washes?

No problems with the auto wash here either. I do not remove either antenna.

Don't know, I have never taken the Av. through a car wash. I do it by hand. In the cold weather, I go to a local detail shop. I bring my own mits, towels and Zaino though. Last time, I just used one of his bays and I did it. I just paid him for a wash so he didn't loose any money.

I too take my AV through a "touchless" wash or else do it by hand.
I have seen an AV GET STUCK in a drive-through brush wash. It was not a pretty sight. ?:6: This AV ended up with scratches on the top of the doors.

As for leaks, I do not get any since I started to pay attention to the way I put back on my hard covers. ;D

I wouldn't run the Av through a gas stations car wash...I do run it through a car wash in the neighborhood....and have never had any problems with them.....or the antenna for that matter...they don't use brushes.....they use some sort of synthetic that won't scratch the paint...so they claim.....I tend to look over it really well...after I'm done ...for any surface damage...and have yet to find any.....

It could get pricey....I pay roughly $12 for a wash and wax...and armoral the tires.....No armoral on the interior.....

My AV wouldn't fit. It is a hand only wash vehicle.

But I wouldn't give up the lift for anything.

my avalanche is also pleged with being too tall for the average car wash...being 10foot tall, had to do it at the do it your self places all the time....then happened apon a tochless car wash with a 10.5foot clearence and wide enough for dullys!!!
now i can run her through that fer a quick clean in the winter(have to wash itabout twoice a week with the salt)

I have taken my Av thru all types of auto car wash places and have no problems with any of them. I don't have any scratches and I never take of the antenna. I have never had any problems with leaking either.

I 'm with landmanjim.
take it thru anything, no leaks and no scratches, in the touchless, it takes the lumps off but doesn't really clean it that well.

hell no, i hate a certain auto car wash in my area. it does not wash a 12" strip on the top of my av.

A white AV with a dirty streak down the middle ???  Sounds like a reverse skunk ;D

I took my '02 AV thru a car wash once, got water in the fog lamps for the first time.

I took it to the dealer and while they replaced the fogs housing I replaced the AV.
[fell in love with a loaded Arrival Blue Z71/i]  :B:

This is too funny. Hey Ruby, ya might as well just start a new thread/old topic so's ygmn could complain and consolidate it.  >:D >:D >:D

It's safe so long as you drive through just right.  You should have to remove your attenea or anything.  Although one time my chrome handle cover flew off.  Good thing my mother-in-law noticed it.  And good thing my wife is small and fast enough to get it while the car wash was still going.  ;D

Run through every time i can, don't let scratches from the car wash bother me as there are scratches allready from going offroad they just give the Av character

Sorry, I won't bring mine through a car wash.  Think about this.  About 30 mins or so before you arrive at the car wash, a 4X4 goes through, lined with dirt and sand due to having just completed a nice 4X4 run in the woods.  You know what I'm talking about...you seen these on the road.

Now think of this...Where does all that dirt and sand end up?  On the floor of the car wash?  Yes, but before it hits the floor it gets rubbed off by those supposedly clean brushes.

Now you go through, and guess what...there leftover dirt just waiting for your AV.

No problems so far.  I only use Bubbles car wash in Houston (hand wash) or wash it myself.  At the car wash they always catch the rags on my stainless steel tailgate letters.  They havn't pulled any off yet, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
