Every now and then... I'd say maybe once every couple of months when I'm stopped at a light for a while, when traffic starts going, I ease into the accelerator and the AV moves slowly if at all then there's a THUNK then it proceeds to move on along like normal.  I don't feel any other symptoms and it doesn't seem like the engine is revving at higher RPM's.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Go to your dealer and let them know about this.......even if they cannot duplicate the problem it will be a part of your record. It the tranny starts acting up after it is out of warranty they may help you if it is on your record.

yup... tranny going. Mine does it every so often. Its just a start.

Mine started slipping when changing gears and the very next day it lost all forward gears. Cant really put a time table on it going out.

I've felt something similar to that on a couple of my AVs... Stop at a light ... some hesitation and a thunk...  on takeoff. I'm not sure that it will give you problems... I know it's mentioned in other threads too... it's a worthwile search.

I put mine in reverse the other day and thought it was going to fall out on the ground... That one concerns me... Thank goodness for extended warranties!

just a u-joint hopefully

Yep... I'm due for a service and I'm going to have them go through my U joints, the yoke (a problem area) and CVJs... I don't have any trouble codes but that doesn't necessarily mean the tranny's OK. It felt like the bands slipped or a front pump issue....

We'll see... It's not happened again... I was turning and backing up an incline when it happened... so it was a rare fluke... I hope...

I would ensure all the basics first--fluid full?  Do you live in a hot weather area?  Sometimes when these trannys heat up too much they will slip.  A simple tranny cooler may help resolve the prob, but I certainly would head to the dealer while under warranty.

I'm keeping an eye on mine after some weird slipping/hesitations.  ???

I'm @ 45,000 and the dealer notification sounds like a good idea.

I wonder if getting my billet tranny servo's installed will take care of the problems.  They are supposed to have 30% more surface area for lock up.  :dunno:

Hey guys. It's been a (long) while since I've been here. Long story's to tell.
Question:
When I am at a stop, and I begin to drive, I hear a whinning sound that appears to come from the front.
It usually continues through 2nd gear, but I can't hear it too much at 3rd gear.
Is this a precurser to my tranny going out or something else.
I have larger wheels & tires on now, so not sure if that's part of the issue.
I have 305/50/20's on now.
Any ideas?

I don't notice any slip.
Sometimes it holds in a 2nd or 3rd longer than I think it should.
It's just a high pitch whine in 1st & 2nd gear, sometimes 3rd.
It gradually builds up in loudness until it shifts then it starts low again and builds until the next shift.

Mine didnt do anything like that. I wish you luck. Hope its not your tranny. A new one will run about $2000 from the dealer.

Does the P.S. pump whine at low speed or what?
Does it whine while you are stopped?
The whinning sound from my AV is only when its moving, mostly 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd gear.

Love the 20's, with Enkei's.

Honestly, I can't complain.
I have not had a single (mechanical) issue with my AV in the past 108k miles.
I hope to keep it a lot longer.
If it is the tranny, and I need to replace, I might beef it up to pull a 14' trailer.

It sounds like the noise is engine speed related. Does it make the noise if you gas it in park? It could be an accessory noise(power steering, alternator etc...), possibly a torque converter too. One easy way to tell is disconnect the serpentine belt and see if the noise is gone. If it goes away then its NOT the transmission.

Good luck

Mark

My tranny just went out. I had the same problem when stopped at a light once in a while it would feel like it was slipping into gear with a clunk. 05 AV with 46k miles.
