Is Your A/C A Bit On The Warm Side?

It hit 88 degrees here yesterday.....not humid yet, but throught I'd give the a/c a tryout. It seemed to take awhile for the cool air to arrive, and it never seemed to get really COLD, even with the temp controls all the way to the bottom. Anyone else had this happen and is it considered normal? Any other a/c I've had would literally freeze your butt to the seat if it were turned all the way down.

I'd have to go back several vehicles to find one that blew really cold air. I think my '96 was when I first noticed it wasn't as cold. (Don't know what happened between '92 and '96, I kept my '92 longer than most.)

what happened was the car compaines switched to r134-a from r-12 freon and it dosnt work as well

I've got the auto-temp control on my 02 AV. The only time I note less than optimal cold air flow is when I'm stuck in traffic shortly after starting the engine on a warm day. Once moving, the AC does a great job--far, far better than the '92 & '96 Honda Accords which preceeded it.

R-134 is 10% less efficient then R-12 but you should still feel plenty of cool air. It hit 88 here in the twin cities MN yesterday and my A/C worked fine. Sounds like your system could be low on freon. Charge needs to be checked and if its low leak needs to be found and fixed the recharged. I run the HVAC&R shop at a very large complex and am licensed in refrigeration. If you need more help then this send me a message.

Mine is blowing ice cold. The first time I used it this year it was blowing warm for the first minute, but that was the only time. Make sure the A/C light is on. (just making sure ;) )

My 3 month old Av wasn't blowing very cold yesterday with temp around 90 outside. I had pressed the button with a snowflake on it assuming that was A/C. I toggled it off and suddenly it was blowing VERY cold.

So at first I thought the A/C was horrible, then realized I had something else turned on....gotta get out the manual to find out what the snowflake button does.

YOU should get very cold........Have dealer check freon level....some 02'shipped on the low side....

I live where it gets 100 and 100% humidty and it gets cold real fast.........

My AC is cold as ice and blows huge amounts of air. The best I've ever had, and down here we appreciate AC about 11 months a year! I haven't had my AV long enough yet to know how it works in the summertime, but so far so good. ;D

Ive notice that sometimes the heat is not as hot as I'd like. If I set the temp to the max then it works fine.

I have an '03 with the electronic dual climate control and it blows VERY cold air. Sometimes it can be annoying when you have the sunroof open. The on position they forgot was "vent" which would still move air but not run the compressor. Other than that I've been very happy with the A/C and heat.

A good way to make sure your gettin the best the A/C can do is by looking at the puddle of water your condensator makes under the vehicle (assuming your humidity levels are normal), you want at least a " soda can spill size on a midday 10 minute parking..."

Had a white Suburban before the Av a noticeble dif in inside temp. with my black Av. The Av gets plenty cold despite the difference in inside starting temp.

Okay, I've figured it out. I have an 03 with auto climate, and the snowflake button, when pressed, turns OFF the AC. The symbol that shows up on the display is actually a snowflake with a slash through it, though it is hard to tell. When you set the temp, then press the snowflake and the display indicates the "slashed snowflake", you have just turned on the fan as a vent.

I just figured this out yesterday on the way home from work. :)

My 02's A/C actually did fine last summer in the CA Central Valley heat. But our summer's are dry, and only hover around 100deg, with 105deg not unusual.

Hey JDW174!!!!

Wouldn't you know it. The other guy in Paris has a 03 Z66 Arrival blue too. What a trip, for everyone elses info Paris is really small town. So it's kinda funny.

Anyway, my AV has ;DCOLD ;D air. I turned it on the other day also and had to back it down before I made it back to work (about 4 miles). I'd get it checked out.

Give me an IM and maybe we can meet at Trolingers or somethin' and talk about our favorite trucks :B:. It'll be like a mini GTG.

Yeah, it took me a while to figure that out to. ?On most A/C systems, the display shows when the air is on, but on this system it shows when the A/C is off. ?This is definitely weird, and I wonder why GM does it this way on the Auto system for 2003. ???
