Knocking Sound In The Rear

I hear a knocking sound in the rear...anyone else hearing this?

PS..I love this truck

I heard a knocking sound this past weekend and thought my midgate was loose.

After checking it was a 7 gallon water jug rolling around in the back while 4x4ing.

If you can't find anything this obvious - go see your dealer. This is not normal.

Keep us posted if it is a problem.

Just got back from the dealer for two issues. One was the knocking sound and they said this is normal. I disagree. I am going back and will ask them to see a new av...once I do I will shake the rear of the truck. When they see that there is no sound, and mine knocks...maybe then, they will fix it.

Also the truck was smoking and burning oil...They replaced the PVC...looks good so far.

I have been wanting to post this for sometime...but I just kept forgetting. ?One windy day (because thats when it happens) I heard this constant knocking sound in the rear of the truck. ?I was driving at around 15 miles per hour to 25 mph...it would stop then start. ?I stopped my truck got out and look around and underneath. ?Looked in the side storage bins...NOTHING! ? ??? ?Then as I am standing there...voila!...the infamous knocking sound. ?Hopefully this is all you hear. ?The knocking noise came from the rear upper wheel well (its on both sides), there is an approximately 10x6 piece of rubber that is only fastened at the top that flaps in high winds...hence the flapping/knocking noise. ?This only happens when winds catch it just right on a windy day...wierd but true! ?

I've experience the low vibrating rumble like kodeski has when the wind is just right. It only has happened a few times. Mine was also the rubber flap.

I have also heard this knocking sound. I have had the avalanche for about 8 months, and I have had nothing but problems with it. The knocking sound is the latest of the problems. I notice it when I am doing 50-70mph on slighly bumpy roads mainly state highways. It seems like it is coming from the midgate or rear window. If anyone has some info on this I would greatly appreciate it. ???

Actually I hear the knocking at low speeds and only when turning. If the truck is in park and I rock the back of the truck I can hear it then too. Basically sounds like the wheel is loose. Strange

I dont hear anything If I rock it back and forth when it is in park. I just happens when I'm in motion.

I experience a knocking sound quite often, especially around low speed turns. It sounds like it's the tranny or the rear diff (Z-71). I've been very concerned that I have a bad tranny... lot's of clunks when travelling through my neighborhood where there are stop signs every 50 yards !!! Clunks very bad when it shifts down to 1st at a stop, and then a different sound from the rear as I accelerate from a stop to make a 90 degree turn. Any help appreciated !!
