If you are refering to the type of tint that is basically a sheet that applies to the window, I don't know that you removing it vs. a shop doing it is going to matter. Once it is gone,.. its gone. It is not hard to do. I personally wouldn't pay someone to do it, it is just too easy.
Many states allow a certain percentage of tint. you may want to ask an officer next time you see one. Most shops sell all types of timt, legal and no, and if you knew what the persentage is, then you could get that tint.

I had my car windows tinted for over 25 years and I never got stopped for it. ?BTW, I do live in the greater Los Angeles area. ?

If you are approaching a LAPD or CHP vehicle, row down your windows. ?The last thing you want to do is go side by side next to an officer and look at them through dark windows.

If you ever get pulled over, roll down all of your windows.

Using those two techniques, I have never been stopped or been asked to remove my tint. ?I also have my share of tickets :-[ but they never wrote me up for the windows.

If you have to remove it (I suspect you have the film, not the older spray on), ?use a razor blade to lift it up and just peel it off. It should not take more than a few minutes to remove it. If there is any adhesive left over, use water or WD40 to clean it off. ?Have an officer inspect it, and signed off. ? Then go have it done again. ?I found a place in La Habra (east of Los Angeles) that does it for about $45 for the two fronts.

We got pulled over by CHP... One of the first things out of the officer's mouth was... "We pulled you over for your illegal front window tint." My hubby replied, "Ummm... our front windows are not tinted officer, they are stock from the factory." Then the officer said, "Roll up your window!" Then said, "Oh!" "It must have been a reflection off your back windows." Whatever.

This happened to me with my previous car after driving around with tinted windows for 10 years. I used a razor to lift up an edge of the tint and pulled it off myself. After I went to have it inspected (it was a fix-it ticket), I went to another tint place to have it put on again.
I have my front windows tinted on my AV and I basically do what hq does.

Good luck.

Well, my thing is, if you know you got them tinted darker than the legal limit, you get what you deserve.

OTHERWISE...

If it's the cops at fault, make sure you point that out to them ;) ;D

rollling your windows down when you see the fuzz helps, i got 5% all around and 20% on the front two.

hq, being one in law enforcement myself, I've got to tell ya that just because you are not written for the tint, does not mean that it was not the reason you were pulled. Any tint the mearly LOOKS too dark, gives the officer a reason to stop you. If it is illegal, so be it, if it isn't that is OK too, and not anybodies "fault" They have the right to do that and most do. (for some like myself to be honest, it is just a pain in the butt so I ignore it ) After stopped for tint the officer will be checking everything else out on the vehicle (licence, state inspections, height requirements, and an assorted other stuff) That officer may write you for the tint or no, doesn't matter it is really up to that officer. They may just write you for the other stuff, or not too. I will point out, that if an officer sees a vehicle approaching and suddenly rolls all there windows down at once, that too can give them the "reasonable suspicion" to stop the car.
In summary, take you chances if you like and can pay the consequences, or just do what is the right thing.

My brother was a cop in Texas for almost 20 years and one of the best things he used for "probable cause" was the window tint. I rode with him 2 or 3 times and this resulted in numerous tickets for illegal tint (every one he stopped was illegal without any of the stickers shops put on when tinting) and once a double arrest for outstanding warrants . One thing I learned during this: If you're stupid enough to have arrest warrants out or drugs in the vehicle or some other thing you don't want the cops to know about DO NOT tint your windows yourself or have a shop install illegal tint (they are not supposed to, but some of them are STUPID also).

When my Son had my car in NY for awhile he got stopped by the Troopers (same one - substation in home town) about once a week and asked when he was going to take the tint off. Not much they could do as car was registered to me in TX.

I don't like getting stopped - so I stay within the legal limits with my tint - now driving fast is another game :)

I will always push 10-20 over and watch ahead for the cops - I watch Cops everyday to get hints on what not to do - LOL

In Palm Springs,CA the local police had, in mid 90's and may still have it now ?, limo tint on their cruisers on all windows except the windsheild. Tint "code" was in effect at that time and I bet they enforced it. Why are they allowed, HUH ? ?>:D

Well my question is, why is it OK for limos to have a limo tint?? Do they get some kind of an exception in the vehicular code?

So anyway if you are going to remove the tint yourself and it is giving you problems Wal*Mart sell a spray called tint off to help loosen the gum of the tint. UMMM that is the original topic isnt it???

I am the guy that was stopped by LAPD.
What the hell is going on ??? ??? I just wanted to know how to loose the tint...I ended up loosing my mind. :cautious:

Thanks for the guy with the spray idea.

I bought the Truck from a very nice person who lived in Las Vegas. It's legal there to have tint beacause the sun is so strong. When I bought the truck I knew it's a matter of time till I will get cought. I it finally happened after 6 months.

By the way - The guy who slod me the Z71 fully fully loaded for 26000 went and bought the H2. I called him and he said that the Avalanche is much better....
thanks.............
