Does anyone make software that you can load onto a laptop and plug into your Av's system to track your performance and mileage for a long period of time? I know of a chip you can install to keep an eye on your kids driveing performance while he's got mom and dad's car. But I'm looking for something you can set in the pass. seat and keep and eye on as you drive.

PM 11H.

he rarely gets out of the jack's garage. he had his laptop out when we were at ProDyno.

I'd buy a laptop i i could get software like that BUT there are scanners on the market that do just that will record what happens while you drive, I have seen them at auto stores for like three hundred for the gm cars with modules to use with other cars and trucks if you need them just a thought

Autotap is a good value for the money chevylover, it would do all that your looking for..., if you want to do more than just monitor there's ls1 edit, or EFI live... EFI live is the latest and supposedly best... I have Autotap and ls1 edit.. Autotap is great for monitoring things and trouble shooting..... Edit and EFI live are nice if you want to play around and make changes.., but it takes awhile to learn them.. Autotap is pretty easy to setup and use........

Autotap and EFIlive have merged now. It's an excellent program.

Davis CarchipEX is a stand alone module that plugs in under the dash. It will only monitor 5 readings at a time but will accumulate 300 hours of data. Remove the module and download the data to a PC.

EFIlive is a lot more detailed and capable but you do need to have your laptop connected. It's an active process, you turn it on and off, you start recording and stop recording, you name files and save them.

The CarchipEx is a passive system, you plug it in and can forget it. It will record until you unplug it.

Both systems will read and reset trouble codes.

I'd get EFIlive if you plan on tuning your PCM.

Get Carchip if you want something easy and convenient.

I bought EFIlive after CarchipEX and still use both.

Isn't Car Chip more of a history analyzer, obd2 scan unit?

Absolutely! as is EFILive. THere is a version of EFILive that is bi-directional. It allows you to make real time adjustments but they are not permanent.

LS1Edit is used to make permanent changes to the PCM.

Hay

Did you get any responce on the laptop software for AV? :B:

I have no info about software for a laptop, but I bought the Auterra Dyno Scan. Works with a PDA with the Palm OS.

I used it for malfunctions in my Grand Cherokee, but will work with the Avalanche too. Not only fault codes, but also codes-reset function and Dyno results.

Check out: Auterra Dyno Scan

How dangerous is it to use the software to make changes? can you accidentally ruin the PCM? How much learning does it take, before you are able to not make a terrible mistake?

LS1Edit is not user friendly at all. It is very easy to destroy your truck with this software. There are no instructions.

If you know what you are doing it is a very powerful tool but there is no safety net.

There is lots of info on the LS1Edit forum about the uses for it. I believe the big thing is to just make sure that you make a copy of your stock PCM first. After that its go slow and take your time and 1 change at a time and always back up your files.

As far as there not being an instruction guide I downloaded a 47 page LS1 Edit User Guide that seems pretty easy to follow. It is not a tune up guide but it is an instruction manual on the use of LS1 Edit.

Sites to check out : LS1.com , LS1 Edit Faq , LS1Tech , LS1 Tuning.
There are lots of referances to LS1Edit on these sites. Also lots of guts that use it and are willing to help answer any questions.
